Seth is still out. Everything went well with the surgery, but afterward he has had alot of bleeding. They have gotten it slowed down but want him out until it has stopped completely. It's been a little rough because I want to talk to him really bad. But he has started to wake up several times and even 'signed' for me to kiss him on the forehead when he first came into I.C.U. I am trying to stay close, but not too close because he seems to stir more when I'm right by his side, and all of his stats go crazy. I expect things to go just fine, but for now we're just waiting.

The great thing about Mayo is that they keep you well informed throughout the whole surgery. We were informed when he entered the O.R., when he the incision was made, when he went on the heart/lung machine and when he came off, and an approximate time that he would be moved to I.C.U. It was absolutely wonderful to know exactly what was happening.... not ever had that sort of experience at a hospital before! It was a great change of pace :) He came straight from O.R. to icu, so I was able to see him very shortly after the surgery.

I will be here through the night, so if there are any changes I will post again when I get a chance. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and encouragement.

Sounds like a perfect place to have surgery. Praying that you will get to talk to Seth real soon. He will be up and about before you know it.

Thanks for the update and don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Hi, from Karen's sister Nicola.
Our thoughts and best wishes for Seth's speedy recovery. :) :)
(John's surgery is scheduled for 8am tomorrow), so any advice would be much appreciated. Lots of Love xxxxx

Thank you for posting the updates Brandi. My husband had his valve replaced at Mayo in Sept 2005 and Nathan received outstanding post op care. Both of you will be in good hands :) That first day in ICU he is going to be in and out alot and by day 2 post op Nathan started to come around alot more. Wishing you guys the best for a speedy recovery and a safe trip home. Take care,

Ann

Prayers for a smooth recovery. Tell him we said "Welcome to the other side of the mountain."

Glad he is in ICU now and "over the mountain". Prayers continue for an uneventful recovery.

I'm so glad all went well for the surgery. Praying now that the bleeding will slow down and that you are able to kiss and talk to him very soon. You guys must be in love... for his stats and machines to go crazy each time you're close to him! You'll have to remember that story to tell him when he's more alert!

Brandi,

Very glad that everything went well with Seth's surgery. Thoughts/prayers coming for a continued SUCCESSFUL recovery :).

Brandi, Seth will be fine.
I was also knocked out through the second day, hubby said I just came in and out of a fog, repeatedly asking "what time is it?"
The second night I did have bleeding from my incision, but it was no problem.
Day 3 all was very good.:)

Day 2!

Day 2!

Thanks to everyone for being so supportive. Not long after I posted last night Seth's bleeding went from 110 cc's per hour to about 30-40 cc's per hour. It's amazing how quickly things can change! He's been up walking a couple of times today and sitting in a chair to eat (although he doesn't have an appetite yet... which is extremely out of character for him!! Ha!)

He's quite the trooper! Handling everything very well considering what a panic he was in pre-surgery :)

I plan on bringing the laptop into him in a couple of days, whenever he's feeling up to it; so that he can read everyone's posts and I'm sure he'll have some things to say.

Brandi

The first few days tend to go the most slow. He will feel better and better each day.

Sounds great- each day will be better and you will be taking him home before you know it!

Oh, I'm so glad to read this update!
As Phyllis said, every day will be a little better and soon you both will have forgotten what all the fuss was about!:)
