Hey guys, I know this is way off topic, but does anyone have any experience with volkswagen GTI's? VW is looking to give me a good deal to buy me out of my lease early *and write off what I owe on my current vehicle (currently have a VW tiguan) and its a chance to get me into a smaller vehicle for less money (payment, gas, and insurance wise) which will be more conducive to working less hours, what do you guys think? I love the car, and I think I know what I want to do, I want some outside input though

I haven't had any recent experience with GTI's, but a long time ago I had a Rabbit that was updated to the GTI suspension specifications and it was a majot hoot to drive. You could take the expressway exit cloverleaf at highway speed and floor it through the turn and the tires wouldn't even squeal. No body lean, either. I used to love to bait the Mustangs and Camaros into the ramp, then watch in my mirror as the drivers' faces turned to panic when they couldn't stay on the road!

I also had a couple of Scirocco's. They weren't as purely performance oriented as the GTI/Rabbit was, but they were great fun cars.

As for the modern GTI -- I'd go for it!

car 001.jpg ok ive waited long enough to post another pic of my car, nothing to do with a golf but well your golf might be black lol,if you like it GO GET IT :D

Yup!!! I did it, I got a beautiful 2012 metallic grey, loaded GTI, but I compromised and got automatic so roland would be able to drive it, now the trick is to learn all the bells and whistles!!!! I love it, but I'm almost afraid to drive it, its way too new feeling, gotta love the honeymoon phase. . . Now to learn my way out of it and get used to it....hmmm cars these days are so much more sophisticated/complicated than even the first car I drove (which was a 1999 model year, used car)

Thanks for the input guys!!! I appreciate it, it feels amazing to finally be empowered to make a decision like this, I need to learn to be more confident and decisive instead of scared of decisions like these

I think I remember that "new car" feeling. . . Rocket Barge is now approaching 110,000 miles. While it no longer smells or feels new, it is still a great car, so it will probably be around for another few years.

Enjoy the new car while it is so new. There's something very thrilling about an odometer reading that starts with a bunch of zeroes -- and it isn't going over for the second or third time!
