For those of you who just thought you knew everything, here's a refresher course:

The liquid inside young coconuts can be used as a substitute for blood plasma.

No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven (7) times.
Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
Oak trees do not produce acorns until they are fifty (50) years of age or older.

The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley's gum.
The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache.
American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one (1) olive from each salad served in first-class.
Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise. (Since Venus is normally associated with women what does this tell you!)
Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning.

Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin.
The first owner of the Marlboro Company died of lung cancer. So did the first "MarlboroMan."
Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
Pearls melt in vinegar.
The three most valuable brand names on earth: Marlboro, Coca Cola, and Budweiser, in that order.
It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs.
A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.
Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least six (6) feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush. (I keep my toothbrush in the living room now!)
Richard Millhouse Nixon was the first U.S. president whose name contains all the letters from the word "criminal." The second? William Jefferson Clinton (Please don't tell me you're SURPRISED!?!!)
And the best for last.....
Turtles can breathe through their butts.
Now you know everything there is to know.
Of importance, that is!

Loved those! And how many of you have tried the folding paper one?????

I have had a pet turtle for years. I have yet to see any bubbles coming out of his butt when he's in water.
However, I will keep watching! ;) ;)

We have a turtle, too. I will have to start watching him more closely. :p

Now I have a small Oak tree growing in my back yard and it has acorns on it. They are really funny looking though and I know it is not fifty years old. Are they really acorns?

Ahhh, now I've been watching "Mythbusters" (fabulous show!) and they managed to record a very small echo from a duck - although it wasn't able to be heard by the human ear, it did register on their soundwave software thingy.

Another one that was tested by the Mythbusters. They found a toothbrush kept ANYWHERE - even OUTSIDE the bathroom in an enclosed cannister, still had traces of "airborne" matter (..which is really just another name for nasty stuff from the toilet..). My own theory is that after using the "facilites" we wash our hands.... then use our "clean" hands turn off the same tap that we turned on with our "dirty" hands. Therefore, if we're brushing our teeth in the bathroom - regardless of where we keep our toothbrush, you are still going to come into contact with a "dirty" tap and transfer those particles to whatever you are holding.

Mind you - at the end of the day, the amount of germs/airborne matter you are talking about are so minimal it really is negligent (..although that really doesn't do much to set your mind at ease!..). Personally I got into the habit of putting the lid down before flushing years ago, but I doubt it really makes much difference.

And on that very cheerful note I bid you adieu.....

A : )

PS - another "did you know"..... the emu and kangaroo on the Australian coat of arms were chosen because they are both animals that cannot move backwards (..we just leave that to our politians!.)

That which does not kill you, will make you stronger....

Or something like that.

I forget the exact number, but the average person swallows a few spiders every year in their sleep. It's a fact.

And DAMNED creepy too.

Oh, and you can fold newsprint in half more than seven times, but you need a really big sheet of it (larger than most newspaper pages) and you might need some extra force (a mechanical press) for the last few folds.

I believe thin tissue paper is the same way, has to do with how the paper is made and the width.

Your heart stops every time you sneeze.

Your eyes close every time as well, it's impossible to keep them open during a sneeze (at least without hurting your eyes in the process.)

There's something else about the force of a sneeze that's interesting too, but I can't remember it exactly, almost want to say it's the velocity, that the speed at which "matter" first flies out of your mouth when you sneeze is faster than the speed of sound or something like that, someone google it....

Spiders...

Spiders...

Speaking of spiders - I saw on Mythbusters they said "At no time are you ever more than 6 feet away from a spider."

Fun!

Fun!

What a great list. Quite fun. Did not know about the Mythbusters show so thanks for the nod and I'll look for it now before we switch on our 10pm news!

I had no idea that turtles were such desirable pets!!

No more than 6 feet away from a spider  . And this summer we're getting them as big as our fists in the house!! uh. 5 of us, divide square footage by 6 feet.........frighteningly outnumbered!!!! ORKIN!!!!!
