A friend forwarded this to me. Thought the family would enjoy :) .

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - TEXAS STYLE

People in Texas have trouble with all those shalls and shall nots in the 10 Commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks out in west Texas got together and translated the "King James" into "King Ranch" language: Ten Commandments, cowboy style.

Ten Commandments posted on the wall at CrossTrailsChurch in Fairlie, Texas.

1) Just one God.
2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
3) No telling tales or gossipin'.
4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'.
5) Put nothin' before God.
6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
7) No killin'.
8) Watch yer mouth.
9) Don't take what ain't yers.
10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.

Now that's kinda plain an' simple don't ya think?

Y'all have a good day, now.

Y'hear

May God Bless,

Danny

Good and plain, simple words that "don't cause no confusion".

I know it can get confusioning because isn't "cov'et" what you do when you get out of the shower? :D

I've always thought it was "jest" instead of "just." ;)

BTW, Fairlie is in NORTHEAST Texas -- probably a good day's drive away from West Texas. That's why folks in Fairlie would find West Texanese so funny.
There used to be a rumor (don't know if it's an urban legend or actually true) that when Texas came into the U.S. in 1845, the agreement was that Texas could be divided into 5 states if Texans ever so agreed. Since there are so many Texas dialects, I doubt if you got a group together, no one could understand each other. (An example: Texas Legislature :D )
Texas is the only state that was a nation before entry (Republic of Texas, 1836-1845).

Danny,
Thanks. I had not seen that.

Marsha,
There is another urban legend that Texas has the authority to secede from the US at the discretion of Texas. Frankly, I put more cotton in the "split" than the "run" story. :)

I don't know about Hawaii, but I do remember learning that Texas is the only state that has the right to fly its state flag at the same level as the U.S. flag, and that was supposedly because we were the only state that was a REPUBLIC before joining the U.S. I also remember a project in 7th grade Texas History where we divided the state into 5 smaller states and had to give the justification for why we divided it in the way we did.

If you think about it, you will probably agree that if enough people stand on Hawaii at the same time, it will sink into the ocean, so can we really call this a state? We Texans tend to not recognize Alaska either because we know that nothing is bigger than Texas!!! :D

That really tickled my funny bone. Should be in all courts in the country, no fretting on these. Thanks for the sharing.

Texas also has (or at least did when we went) an Embasy in London. It happens to be a restaurant now, but it is on the site of the actual Texas Embasy from when we were a Republic. :D It was quite a treat to stumble upon it on our trip to London 8 years ago.

Waiting for Janie to chime in...she will tell it like it is... :D :D :D :D Where are you, Texas Girlfriend?... :D Bonnie

Chiming Janie here...

Chiming Janie here...

I've been in the air Bonnie.... Just arrived back on that wonderful Texas soil, so let me gather my self, kick the jetlag out the window and I'll be right back.. :D

Being the smart a$$ I am, of course...

The "Ten Commandments" in Tibetan Buddhism:

1) Loving Kindness

:D

Very good Harpoon!

I always figured the big "10" pretty much condensed into "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". I've never been a religious gal, but that always seemed to make a lot of sense to me.

A : )

Hensylee:

That's covered, if you covet something or someone else's something (someone?) then you're not practicing loving kidness.

The term is pretty expansive and implies compassion and respect for all living things. You can't have that if you covet someone or something or someone else's possession....

I want a bumper sticker that says something like:

"Do, Speak, Listen, Live - Selflessly"

The idea is above treating others as you would have them treat you, it's about doing or saying things because it's right, not for the same treatment in return....

Selflessness is a very hard goal to achieve for most of us...

Hola y'all...

Hola y'all...

"This tantalizing territory that is Texas.. You will find enticing diversity here -- in scenery, the history, the food, and the people. And you will discover a hospitality born of gracious Southern roots, sprinkled with old-fashioned Western grit, and spiced with the cultures and customs of Hispanic, German, Czeck, and two dozen or so other significant ancestries. Texas is, indeed, like a whole other country."

The above taken from the 2005 Texas State Travel Guide which you can get free at www.traveltex.com

Today, ten years later -- we Texans joined our Oklahoman neighbors with 168 seconds of silence to honor those who lost their lives when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed. Difficult to believe a decade has passed..
