i am so glad that people started to share their thoughts in my latest coumadin question.. now i could use a big help again!! ( i promise i do research on my own, but i like to hear from people WHO actually are going through some of the same experiences... so i hope you dont mind me asking questions......... i hate being a newbie!!)

okay so on my Janatovin (coumadin) i know im suppose to watch how much green leafy veggies.. salads.. etc...

What about how much sun.. Now today i was out on my parents boat.. my gram called my mom and said oh no, she shouldnt be out in the sun due to coumadin.. I was like I DONT THINK SO!!!!! i am not going to hide out because of this darn pill when its nice out!!

Are there more concerns of what i should be careful of? how about the sun??
Yes i know about cutting and bruising.. i want to know of physical things i should be careful of..

Has anyone experienced anything that they notice that they have to watch out with? Sorry for such a wide open question.. but i want all the infor i can take!!!

Diesel!!

I am out in the sun all the time. Don't know of any reaction with warfarin. I am a sun block user so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I would not give up the sun so I guess, if there's an issue, I don't want to know about it.

The sun is not one of the concerns. I would suggest, however, that you use sun screen/tan lotion. When I was on Coumadin, I didn't let that stop me from cleaning my cars ... out in the sun. I just made sure I had plenty of sun screen/tan lotion on ... which I did anyway.

There are some drugs which cause over-sensitivity to the sun (amioderone is the first one I can think of but that's a nasty drug in so many ways).

But coumadin ISN'T one of them :D . So get out there and enjoy yourself! (while wearing sunscreen of course - and try to avoid exposing your scar to the sun for a while as it can burn a lot more easily, especially at first).

I live in Florida and am in the sun all the time (wearing a hat and using sun block as recommended above). No effect on my INR level as far as I know.

My doctor did advise me to keep my scar out of the sun for six months after my surgery.
