Just had to tell about my interesting morning. My husband Glenn, who usually leaves for work at 6, slept in until 7:30. He got up, stretched and promptly fell backwards, hitting a dresser. He said he got dizzy. I rushed over and helped him up. He then goes into the bathroom and is, ummm, emptying the tank. I peek in to ask how he's doing. He falls forward a bit, then falls flat on his back, eyes roll up in the head and he's sweaty all over. I run and call 911 - he revives and is crabbing at me for calling. Still sweaty as a clam. Paramedics come - check him out, he's still sweaty but EKG is fine, pulse is fine, blood sugar is fine. They want to take him to the hospital, he said no. I told him I could take him or make his life a living hell... his choice. So we went to the ER. They basically found nothing. They are saying that it was his blood pressure dropping suddenly - (but he passed out 2 times in 5 minutes). So now he has a Holter moniter for the next 24 hours. And he's not a bit happy about that.

Now that I'm not as worried about him for the moment, I am confessing that I'm feeling some small bit of satisfaction that he has to put up with monitors and doctors and ER's as the patient. And he is a VERY crabby patient. We went to lunch - Holter all hooked up, and I smiled and said "Welcome to my world, honey!"

Okay - I got that off my chest, now I'll go back to being the concerned wife tending to a husband who has no patience for not feeling good!

Hi Karlynn-

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I'm glad things checked out OK, but also very glad they put him on a monitor. Could be his bloodpressure, but it could also be some kind of arrhythmia. Fainting is something to be very careful with, not only the faint itself, but the possibility of injury. My husband had several faints and did injure himself.

So, please let us know how things turn out.

Hi Karlynn

Congratulations on getting him to the ER. It's pretty much conventional wisdom that ANY unexplained loss of conciousness should be investigated until the root cause is found. You did the exact right thing, just make sure it doesn't get brushed off.

I told him I could take him or make his life a living hell... his choice. So we went to the ER.

Ooooo, your an evil little spouse. I like that! :D

I'm glad to hear that they haven't found anything thus far. I'm sure he's not a happy camper, but now he has to admit that he doesn't like what we go through and has a much better understanding of it, I'm sure.

Karlynn! Wow. I am so sorry. Did not expect the context of your post when I opened it! Glad Glenn had it checked out.

Sounds like a slight arrhythmia or maybe the blood pressure. Holter will hopefully pick up on an arrhythmia.

Do you have a blood pressure unit? It may be helpful to take it a different times and ways. Upon standing and sitting, etc. My father has this issue. It pops up and down with no warning.

As for the 'anti- doctor hubby syndrome'. Remind me to tell you our story when we get together. Both living on the edge here with our issues. Just have to take one day at a time.

Please give Glenn my/our best. Will be waiting for your next post.

Take care.
PS. Forgot to ask...is Glenn under a ton of stress? Only asking because my sister fainted in the shower recently. She is under an unbearable amount of stress.

Thanks for everyone's concern. Yes, Gina, he is under a lot of stress with his job. In fact he actually mentioned that to the ER doc, which kind of surprised me. At first he was just telling them what they wanted to hear so he could get the heck out of there.

I'll keep y'all posted on the Holter results. Although I'm not expecting them to show much.

I have to go give Phase II of my lecture series entitled "You Really Have To Take Better Care Of Yourself". I already presented Phase I, and his response was "Were you talking to me?"

Karlynn,

For some reason, I was expecting something "light hearted" when I read the topic of the thread. Boy, what a shock!

I hope all goes well for your husband. Heh...I know we all know the "pains" of wearing that goshdarn monitor....lol...so, please tell him he is in good company :)

BTW, it was very cool meeting you on Friday night!

Peace...always,

I posted here last night and it's just gone into outer space somewhere.

Gist of it was to suggest you do a search on the net for 'syncope' and orthostatic hypotension.

Even if it doesn't apply, you will have learned something new.

Hensylee what time did you post, do you remember? I was on here until almost 11:15 and Sylvia's post was the only one at the end of this thread then.

I'm still trying to figure out why your posts are disappearing.

I still don't have the answer, but I'm thinking.

Glenn is feeling well this morning, although seeming a bit apprehensive which is unusual for him. He says he's taking half a day off work this afternoon. We'll see. That means he should be home when I get done substitute teaching at 3. He's been known to make his "half days" more like 1 hour off of work.

Hensely, thanks for the advice, I will do some research.

Thanks so all - off to teach a little Biology:eek: Hope they aren'te disecting anything.

Karlynn,
So sorry to hear about Glenn. The orthostatic hypertension is a good possibility since both faints were soon after getting up out of bed. Good luck with trying to figure this out. I am sorry that the Dr's weren't able to come up with more info for you. However, perhaps that is a mixed blessing. I will be praying for you and Glenn both and that the Lord will guide you in your search.

Hi Karlynn - sorry to hear about Glenn's problems. You guys don't need any more problems. Hope they find out the real skinny and get it solved pretty quick- Chris
