I took the diet drugs Fen Phen, law suit, settlement 6 years go by, they offer me Echocardiogram, I take it in March 2003, after telling person behind glass I wouldn't have it unless they sent me copy of report. OK Filled out form for copy. Couple of months go by (never say a physician, just Echo tech) End of June they call and say Settlement people won't pay unless they have my SS number. I say you can't have it until I get copy of report. They lost my request. Send me another, I sign, pay $5.00. I give SS # Fourth of July weekend report arrives, I understand immediately what's going on, 5.6cm Aneurysm ascending aorta, not phen-fen related, I have NO symptoms, I go to gym 3-5 times weekly get the heart up to 135 for 60 minutes. I get surgeon, he wants the office of Echo to do cardio followup I go to see the guy who signed the Echo. He walks in and says well a couple of months ago I read this echo and saw this aneurysm, "Say, how did you get this report?"..........how;s that for "First do no harm?"
I make him nervous, therefore he makes me nervous........Fired him used his associate. Don't want to see him again
Now you know why I feel he may be too green........and inexperienced. By the way the Settlement folks never told about the aneurysm, Boy does that Tick me off, Aneurysm was 7 cm at surgery on August 20th. five months later.
However I did stop exercising when I learned about the aneurysm.
Doc was pleased he didn't have to replace aortic valve. Guess I am a walking miracle. Also have the best nurse in the World, my husband, I truly believe it's harder to be the well one..........
Having been a hospice nurse I see the interactions of the whole family, I surely have the Best of the Best.
Happy to be here,
Corky:)

Hi Corky,

Good for You! So glad you got your hands on that report and took proactive action to regain your health.

I wanted to share another web site that is a support group for people that have either an aneurysm or dissection. The group is very helpful, you can write to the site monitor, and he will forward any questions you may have to the other members. You will then hear from folks who have also been through this ordeal.

The site is:

http://www.westga.edu/~wmaples/aneurysm.html

I had an ascending aortic dissection which tore into my heart valve. My narrative is posted here and also on the other site.

Hope this is of some help to you,
Rob
