that was me ... posting the above ... for weird reasons (although I was logged in) It must have timed out and then taken the post as "guest"

Seems handy with some nice features ... for more information see their website: http://www.coaguchek.com/coaguchek_h...s/inrange.html

Your nails look nice...

I discovered this a few days ago. This is called CoaguChek INRange. It hasn't been approved for sale in the United States. There's information at Roche's site. Here's a link to a press writeup about the meter: https://www.meddeviceonline.com/doc/first-pt-inr-home-self-testing-anticoagulated-patients-0001.

This meter has Bluetooth connectivity and records data that is similar to that which many self-testers already collect. Unlike many meters that seem to be designed for clinical use, Roche is positioning this as a self-testing device. The market sure has matured from a decade or so ago, when meters were quite expensive, and the clinics, doctors, and even the manufacturers seemed to think that patients weren't intelligent enough to self-test.

The meter uses XS strips and, presumably, it's basically just a smart, pimped-out XS.It still won't be enough to make me give up my Coag-Sense, but the color screen, the ability to upload and install new firmware (probably more for the menu and displays than for the actual test), and testing reminders make it an attractive upgrade to the XS. (I wonder how Roche will handle all the millions of XS buyers who prefer the newer model) (I also wonder, a bit, about the security of the data, although I'm sure Roche must have some pretty healthy encryption built into it).

Wondering as a matter of interest if anyone knows what it costs new from Roche in their country? Here in NZ it's $985.30, roughly the same price as the XS.

Roche lent me my meter on lifetime loan so I wonder if they will upgrade for free, might fall off the bench....

Very interesting thread. It looks a little complicated when compared to my XS. Because two of us use one meter I question the suitability for more than one user. It looks like a great meter unless the user is tecnicologically challenged as I am. Bluetooth? Hmmm.

I doubt that, at its core, it's any more difficult than the basic XS. The complicating factor will come when you want to use any of the fancy menu items. I haven't had my hands on this meter, but I suspect that it may not be TOO difficult to switch users.
