I didn't get a choice in the type of tissue valve I got, however I am pleased with the Mosaic and the surgeon says the follow up he has seen has shown "excellent results so far". At least there are plenty of people ahead of me so I should get plenty of advanced warning on its likely service life. If you find any further studies on this valve especially on younger patients be sure to post it. :)

Yep.

Yep.

If anyone finds a central repository of stats we can quiz, it'd be wonderful.

As it is, I'm hovering between the Mosaic and the C/E Magna 3000TFX.

Both look very good. Would be very interesting to see their pre-trial data on calcification rates in the lab and in the sheep trials, and compare to the similar ones using the valve predecessors (Hancock for Medtronic, Perimount for Edwards)

How about the Toronto, Andy?

Hello Andyrdj - Sorry if I'm missing something from an earlier post. Had you considered the St. Jude Toronto valve in your analysis (link below)?

http://www.sjm.com/devices/device.aspx?name=Toronto+SPV%26%23174%3b+Valve&location=us&type=19

I will be going with some sort of bioprosthetic here soon for a Ross reop and had been thinking it would either be the St. Jude above, or the C/E pericardial that I believe you're mentioning in this thread.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

--- EDIT ---

Sorry, Further snooping seems to show that the Toronto valve lacks the anticalicification goodness of the newer stentless valves that you're comparing above.

yup.

yup.

I love my Mosaic, but for overall lifespan, I'd go for the CE Magna.

thanks for the reply tobagotwo - yeah, it looks like i'll probably be fencing it between valves of one of these manufacturers. shame that there isn't some comparison out there with a bit more of a formalized approach aside from patient testimonials (not to say that this is not important info!). as Andy laments earlier, a centralized repostiory would be quite helpful*

I've already found a surgeon that seems very familiar with bioprosthetic valves and ross procedure reops (my situation). we might just go with what he is comfortable with. I am scheduled for surgery on the 30th of June 2006 and when the dust settles, I promise to share my decisions with you all here.

*perhaps there's a way to extend vr.com to have a better manner of consolidating the user's experiences? it seems like we could set up a database with some structured data entry forms that us vr patients could enter our info into? things like birth date, valve used, doctor last name, location, sports activities, etc could be entered. of course there are authentication issues with such a thing, but it would be a start. this way, we could begin to ask questions like: "how many vr.com patients adopted xx valve, and of them, how many were under 35 years?" and the like. it could be a way to network with other people, shoot them emails, etc. i duno, i'm just dreaming...:)

Regarding the Toronto Valve...

Regarding the Toronto Valve...

Yes, they're not making much out of their anticalcification process (c.f. medtronic and edwards who are touting them strongly) so I haven't really been drawn towards the Torono valve.
