First of all .... let's get it straight as to who this post is meant for ... and who it is NOT. Some here have really whipped themselves back into pretty good condition. YOU are the ones this post is meant for. Others that are still struggling with heart issues -- for God's sake, disregard my suggestion and HIRE someone to do the yardwork!

Ok .. now that we have THAT straight ....

If you are like me, you are going to do a few stupid things. Like when your cardiologist tells you "stay out of the heat and humidity", well you are going to still do things like ....... mow the lawn ...... in July or August ..... when it is stinkin hot outside! I mean, it has to get done, right? And you can't do it this weekend because you have that fishing date with your buddy.

So ... if you ARE like me ..... have I got just the thing FOR YOU.

But ... and this is a BIG "BUT" .. like I cautioned above --- I wouldn't go trying to work out in the heat unless you really KNOW your heart is up to it.

I've pretty much bought the store out, getting ready for a motorcycle trip to Nebraska in mid-August. I've got the vest, a head wrap, a cooling baseball cap, and one of their micro-fiber T-shirts.

This afternoon, I had occasion to try out the vest and cap while mowing the lawn in some pretty dang hot conditions (almost 100 in the sun). Now, I am not sure I would have mowed with a push mower, but I have a riding mower and I have to say -- this thing really works. Kept me quite comfortable, and I am looking forward to how well it will work going down the road at 70 mph. Now I wasn't the prettiest thing in the world when I came in (let's just say I wasn't dry), but in this weather who cares?

So, if you find yourself not quite obeying the doctors orders, AND again, if you meet the criteria of being back in condition, you ought to at least consider one of these vests and the Kula wide-brim cooling hat (my next purchase).

Those shirts look very reasonably priced. I fish alot and it can get mighty hot on the water in Florida in the summertime. I recently bought a couple of these which are much better and cooler than any hat I have ever worn. They are made out of some coolmax material that stretches for different styles that you want to wear and keep you very cool. Bought my wife a couple too. She has no hair since her chemo treatments and she wears them in the different styles.

I pay a young man $35 every other week to cut my acre of grass during the heat of summer. (Labor comes cheap out here in the boonies).

I thereby save myself (a) $3,000 to buy a riding mower, (b) whatever "cooling apparel" costs, and (c) however many thousand bucks a trip to the ER and an admission cost.

I'm a believer in synthetic light-weight clothing. I wear zero cotton when exercising, or spending time in the heat - including underwear and socks. And, of couse, drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine.

Evaporative Cooling

Evaporative Cooling

I always thought that the Relative Humidity had to be below 20%, like in TX, AZ and OK for it to work.

Der, can't you put a mower deck on the Goldwing?:p

You know, I actually saw a picture once of a Wing with a snowplow. Also another one where a guy was towing a Hobi 16. Talk about "inflated" ego :D

May I ask WHY you want to go on a motorcycle trip to Nebraska in AUGUST? When possible, I avoid southeastern Nebraska in the summer -- HOT and HUMID.

Some friends hold a big get-together at this time. So .. it's to see them. Sure as heck it's not to enjoy that state at that time of the year!

I started wearing evaporative cooling items while riding motorcycle about five years ago and I can tell you that it works great. Just soak the vest and cooling neckerchieves in water all night and then bag them up in ZipLock bags for the ride. Since my wife and I live in Washington State, we usually don't need the stuff until later in the day or if we go east of the mountains. Then we just whip them out of their bags and put them on. I love the things and at 70 mph on a 90 degree day, they are great!
