MaryBo

Hello everybody. This is my first post, even though I have been lurking here for a couple of months. My OHS is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, 5/6). I haven't written my story yet, but here is a brief summary: I'm 53 yrs old and live in Brentwood, TN (just outside Nashville) with my husband and son. My daughter lives in Nashville. I had rheumatic fever when I was seven. At my last annual doctor visit, she told me "the murmur is still there, but there is a lot more leakage". After several tests (echo, stress test, arteriogram, TEE, endoscopy), my cardiologist and heart surgeon decided I needed to have my aortic and mitral valves replaced. I'm not sure which type of valve I am getting, but my surgeon said he thinks he will use a pig valve because he doesn't think he will be able to find a mechanical one that will fit just like he wants it to. I guess I will find out when I wake up tomorrow night.
Anyway, I'll write my story when I get back home next week. I just wanted to post this before I go, so maybe a few more prayers will go up on my behalf. This is such a great website. Thanks, Hank!

MaryBo, welcome to the forum, you will be at the top of my prayer list. Be sure and let us know how you are doing. We're all family on this forum and we care about each other very much. People on here are so full of knowledge, they have been where we are going and have come through just fine. You will make it to the other side of the mountain. Remember God's arms are around you.

MaryBo,
Welcome. We're glad you came out of hiding. I wish you the very best for your surgery. You will be in my prayers.

Dear MaryBo,

Be brave, and work your way through recovery. We are here for you!

MaryBo-

Welcome to the site. I want to wish you all the best for your surgery tomorrow. We'll all be waiting to hear how things went, and to get aquainted with you when you return.

God Bless.

MaryBo, you have all the prayers and good wishes we can conjure up to help you up and over that mountain. Now that you're no longer lurking, please see if someone will post to let us know that you're OK after your surgery.

God bless, and good luck.

Hey MaryBo,
Welcome to this Fantastic Site. We are all glad to have you join our Wonderful family.
I hope everything turns out OK for you and I hope you have someone that will keep us posted on how you are doing.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Mary Bo!

I live in Nashville, so I'll send you some "close range" prayers. I had my surgery at Duke in NC, but I had my cath at Centennial. Where are you having your surgery?

Glad your wait is almost over...it's the worst part IMO. Let us know how you're doing ok?

MaryBo,
Welcome to this great site! I will sent prayers and well wishes your way. It is very scarey, but the waiting is the worst. Looking back the surgery is not as bad as I expected, but I never want to go thru it again that's for sure. Good Luck .

MaryBo,

Welcome to the site. You are among the best of friends here. :)

My prayers will be with you most certainly. Please post when you are over the mountain - we can all help you through your recovery.

Thanks so much, everyone for all the prayers and good wishes! I thought I would check the board one last time before I go use my special scrubbing soap and try to get some sleep. I'm really not worried or afraid. I just have this wonderful, peaceful feeling. I am more afraid of not having the surgery than I am of having it. And I hope I'm not disappointed, but I am thinking that after this is all over with that I am going to feel so good in a few months. I want to ride my bike again, and go for long walks again without feeling like I am going to collapse. Do most of you feel better now than you did before your surgery? Please say yes.
Bryan, I am having my surgery at St Thomas and my surgeon is Dr. Michael Petracek. He has a pig valve himself and he has done lots and lots of valve replacements, so I feel like I am in good hands.
I've asked my daughter, Holly to post something tomorrow night to let all of you know that I'm okay. Thanks again, guys. Y'all are the best!!

*pauses*

Yeah, I know...breakin' one of my rules....lol.

*returns to topic at hand*

Good luck, Mary! Your surgery is the same date as my checkup with the cardiologist...heh...which is a year and 4 months since my last OHS (January 6, 2003).

BTW, I'll be in your neck of the woods in June.... Nashville is my fav city ;).

Hello MaryBo,
Your probably about, if not already, in surgery now. Sending a prayer your way. See you on this side of the mountain.

Mark

I would guess your surgery is well over by now. We will be waiting here for you when you return home. There are lots of postings discussing the more unusual things that happen during recovery.

As for lurking: looks like you snuck in just in time to have us all with you during the surgery. Good. Everyone should have that going for them.

Best wishes,
