Hi all. I found out that I was going to need surgery for my ascending aortic aneurysm on May 15th 2010 and started to search for info about the procedure.
Luckily I found this site and the personal stories were extremely important for my peace of mind.
I had my surgery on June 28th and with the skills of a great surgeon sailed through the op. I was in the ICU overnight and then discharged on the fifth day. My valve didn't need replacement(yet).
Once I got home I was glued to the VR site as my body adjusted to recovery.
Every weird sensation ( from the odd little extra breath , feeling my heartbeat in my throat and the always enjoyable hard heartbeat) I felt over the next few weeks was something one of you had had and just knowing that these sensations were normal was extremely important to me.
It's now 3 months post op and I am finally feeling a bit more like myself.
So thank you all for sharing your experiences. It really is important for all of us who have faced this trying time.

:smile2:

Glad to hear. I will be hitting my 3 month mark on the 21st and like you am pretty much feeling back to normal. I have even been running again (slow)..about 12 miles a week right now.

What a wonderful post! Glad to know your recovery is going smoothly. And how great it is to know that posting our experiences makes a difference in the journeys of others. Hope you will continue to participate here and let us know how everything's going.

Sbullock, Hi and Welcome.
Very happy to hear you had successful surgery, are healing well and you found useful information and comfort here. This is an amazing site that contributes so very much to so many. Happy you registered as you probably represent many who read here but do not post. Let us know how you're doing as you continue your recovery.

Such a pleasure to read your post! I hope your recovery continues smoothly. I also hope you will continue to share your experiences, for those to follow.

Welcome to a fellow Canadian and thank you for sharing your story! It is nice to finally meet the 'lurkers'. :). So glad to read that you are doing well with your recovery. Hope you can continue to join us.

Nice post! I felt the same way when I first found this site. Glad you are doing so well :)

Thanks for posting. I gained (and continue to gain) so much from VR.org that it is nice to know that the tiny amount we try to plough back does help others. We are all in the same boat and we all have experiences to share from life onboard..... from a few days to 43 years!
