First I am very grateful to have found this website. Thank you all of you. I know this is going to be a big hurdle for me, but thank God for all of you. I have another question. Is there a difference in finding a surgeon from Philly or Maryland? I guess what I am asking is "what if there are complications, where would I go if the doctor is far away?" my PCP wants me to go to Philly, but I am hearing good things about Dr. Gammie in Maryland. From what I understand from my cardiologist is that he wants me to get surgury by Feb./March. Well that's all for now. I'm sure I'll have more questions later.

It is more important to find the right surgeon for your case no matter where they are. Yes, it can be a problem should issue arise after you are home but, if you have a really great doctor, you reduce the chances of problems.

I would ask your card why he wants to to go to philly and if he could recomend a few other surgeons so you can get a couple opinions.
there also are a couple of very good valve surgeons in NYC and isn't that able as far away from you as philly is?
a big concern might be what kind of insurance you have and where do they let you go, Lyn
