Oslo73

A month ago, I was told I had to do an OHS.
It was such a chock, because two years ago my doctor told me I probably had to do in 20-25 years from then.
Why so early?
I have been dizzy the last two months constantly.
Because of dizziness and not the heart itself I have to operate.
I started to search the internet looking for just about anything that could explain what I was about to go through.
I have allready been trough one OHS. Aortic valve repair back in -82.
I was eight at that time.
I happened to stumble upon this site while surfing. What a great hit!
All the things that has been written has been such a fantastic help.
I`m not that scared anymore, and feel educated.
Now I can meet my surgeon and actually understand what he is talking about.
He might be abel to repair my valve, but if he is not I will have to face a tough decition choosing between tissue or mechanical. I`m only 33,
so I know what my surgeons advice will be. Mechanical!
There are some major drawbacks on both choises.
What I will pick in the end has yet to be decided.
Sugery date has not been given me, but I was promised one in November. The sooner the better, because I will be a dad for the first time in March. I want to be up and running when the baby arrives.
Anyway, great site! I will post some comments now and then.
Maybe my experience can be of help some day?

Hello Oslo! Welcome aboard! It sounds like you've already made yourself at home and that's terrific. You'll find lots of answers and support here to help you and your family through your surgery. Plus, we love baby pictures, so I hope you hang around for a while!:D

Hello, Oslo - welcome to VR. I am glad you found the site and have learned so much. That's the whole purpose of ValveReplacement.com and to support all who are facing this or have had the surgery. Keep on reading, ask any questions. You will get answers or we will find them for you.

Now that we know a wee one is on the way, you can't leave VR until we know all about the baby. As PJ says, we love babies of our members.

Besides, once a member, always a member. Your experience may help others who are here or who come after you.

Don't Forget the Third Way

Don't Forget the Third Way

Hi, Oslo! What a great post! Thanks for writing.

As an alternative to the options of biologic mechanical valve, you might ask your surgeon if you are a candidate for the Ross Procedure. Quite a few of these are done in Europe, and you're the right age.

Best of luck! Let us know how things go!

So glad you found us, Oslo. Welcome aboard and please ask all and every question that occurs. Congratulations on the baby- we will look forward to welcoming him or her too!

Welcome Oslo! I think you may be our first member from Norway! Just in case you end up with a mechanical, I recommend that you read this thread that a few of us that have been on Coumadin for a long time have put together. http://valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17116

Living life on Coumadin isn't nearly as limiting as the medical community makes it out to be.

Best wishes! Stick around and let us get to know you!

How Extraordinary!!

How Extraordinary!!

...for people to have the opportunity to seek and offer support to people around the world. Quite an accomplishment Hank et. al.
Welcome Oslo!! You have a wonderful attitude - and you have found the right place - so the battle is half won right ?;)
These wonderful peolpe have answered many if not all of my questions, and put my mind at ease. Just read all of these success stories and libraries of valuable information.
I am 34 (with 4 kids already:eek: ) and will have surgery soon. I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to seek a second opinion for a repair. If not repair - I chose mechanical - to avoid reop mainly. Everyone's decision is very personal - and there is no wrong answer. My advice - read away:)
Best of luck in your situation - congrats on the little one - and we look forward to seeing more of you around here!

As everyone else said "WELCOME". Like Piper, I'm in the "waiting room" also. I am 44 and have 3 teenage boys. Life is great!! Do your homework and your mind will be more at ease. Good luck with your venture and can't wait to hear how your OHS goes and about the new arrival!!

Welcome Oslo. I'm relatively new to this site. I found it two or three weeks before my surgery and it was a blessing. I learned a lot more than I ever expected and it certainly made going thru surgery a lot easier because of all the success stories. I'm now almost three weeks post-op and doing great and I can hardly imagine going thru a day where I don't check into this site once or twice. Good luck and keep posting.

Welcome Oslo

Welcome Oslo

There's nothing like an important goal to shoot for to get you through this. Mine was the wedding of my daughter a month after my surgery. I kept telling the doctors, "whatever we do, I am going to walk my daughter down that aisle!"

Your child is obviously your goal. You're going to be there to cut the chord! :D

You are all so kind!

You are all so kind!

Thanks for all the support!
I will post pictures of our baby when the time comes for all you ladies to see.
My girlfriend noticed it was the females asking. Strange! :)
I`m not ready to depart yet, so you will hear from me in the future.

Welcome Oslo73,

Out of curiosity, is "73" the year you were born,
or is there another meaning / significance to that number?

'AL Capshaw'

I believe you are correct Al! He mentioned that he was 33 and that would line up pretty close with Bd in 73'.:)
