This was the price I paid for my running compulsion. As noted in a previous post, I ran a 5K and won my age group on July 13, but tore a calf muscle in the process. It wasn't a major tear at first but I kept trying to walk on it and tore it up even worse. It continued to bleed internally for days because my INR had gone up to 4.4 (for reasons unrelated to running).

So be forewarned, sports and coumadin do not always play nice together.

Yeah it can be nasty, but it'll be fine in a couple weeks. I skinned the crap out of my arm falling asleep at the kitchen counter one night. My beautiful bruise is evident in my pic in the tawdry shirts. Took about 3 weeks before it looked normal again.

Wow, those are quite the pictures! I hope it heals quickly. Are you in a lot of pain or does it look worse than it is?
Take care! I hope you're able to run again soon.

It looks like the Arora Borealis! I've done some good ones too. You should see how much bruising a stupid broken little pinkie toe causes. The question we never know is just how much less bruising we'd have w/out Coumadin. Our friend next door had a similar injury to yours. And it looked very much the same w/out warfarin. When he asked his doctor about why it looked like that - the reply was "Stop walking on it." So he went and played golf the next day. :)

It doesn't hurt so much now, but there's still a lot of swelling in the foot. The injury was way up in the calf, so the swelling is entirely trickle-down. I'm still limping so it will probably be a couple more weeks before I can run.

Hey Ross, that loooks like you're doing a John Travolta pose. Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Stayin Alive...

Very pretty! You sound like my dad. He was a serious runner for a number of years and would come in everyday and ice his Achilles. Finally it completely detached and he had to have surgery. He missed the Houston Marathon that year, but not the next. He also had neck surgery a few years back and was told that running was a thing of the past. He tried walking for a while, then decided that Ortho Surgeons just tell patients to not run as a CYA, but don't really intend for them to follow directions. I think that at 71, he still runs some.

I've had a couple of beautiful bruises when my number wasn't high. One similar to Ross's when I was standing on a desk, went to step off, and the desk flipped. (No, children, Please do not stand on the furniture)

The best was when I had my wires removed and my entire chest turned black. As it healed from the middle out, I had a black ring with a green center. Then gravity took over, the top healed, and I had a black smile work its way down my stomach. Even the surgeon was impressed, but my number was in range and as long as it was fading S - L - O - W - L - Y, he wasn't worried.

Yeah that's what we were supposed to do, but we've gotten lax in tawdry.

You can't see the full thing, but I scraped it so bad that on the opposite side it was black. Don't know why I can fall asleep standing up, but not laying down.
