:D Well everyone I finally got to have my test on my back but not with and event . I know most of you think I am some kind of a nut because of all the stuff I have to go through for everything. But sometimes I think I must have this big dark clound over me. But I try to go with the flow. Well. I made it out alive depite their effects to make sure I didn't. It started the day of the test. I was supposed to have the test at 6.00 am. But that time passed and nothing 8.00 went by nothing. I finally Ask the nurse for the fourth time what was going on and called down stars and she told me they still thought I just didn't show up as a out patient and they didn't even know I was up stairs and had to fit me back in and it was 12:00. Then I went to leave to go & my IV blew just as I was going out the door. Then the nurse forgot to pre-med me for the alliergies to the dye. I had to ask her for it. Then I got down stars for the test and the Dr. Was looking at the chart and was up set that they didn't test my pt& ptt before. They sent me down after they stoped the heperin. Depite all the stuff I made it home in three days for out patent test. Also I was there for over 24 with out any meds. had to ask for my medicine. No wonder my B/p was high. The scary part is if I wasn't able to tell them all the things they wasn't doing whould I till be here!!!!!! :( Thanks for everyone support!! :D

And the even worse part is that if you took them to court while surviving, they would still win the case. If you died because of negligence, then someone would get something, but not you.

Hi Ross,
I told my husband if anything happen to me to make sure to get a good lawyer. For all the good it would have help me. I just wonder what happens to all the people out there who doesn't have a voice in what happens to them.I t real scary isn't it. I went through all this for just a test. I am not really looking forward to the surgery. The rupture disks are pressing on the nerve that causing my legs to give way. This is not a good thing! I go back to surgeon on the 2/28 to discuss my options. It a good thing I have this sight to vent too or I would probably be in th local phy. ward. I am sure there are plenty who think I belong there anyway. Belive me I don't ask for all this drama or want it but just seems to find me!!!

Hey Sherrin - I don't think you have a big dark cloud over you. You experienced a below average medical event and you fixed all the bad parts all by yourself. So, keep them on their toes and good luck with the surgery, I think for bad disk in your back? Of course they will think you are some kind of nut, but we all know better here. Take care of yourself and keep your great attitude and you will be fine.

Sherrin,
I hope you are having better days now, that was just awlful. And to go without meds is horrible. Begging is the worst. Hope and pray that it never happens to you again. My worst days are waiting in the PCP office and waiting for a blood draw for me diabetes checkup. I have to do the starvation diet and I always fear the worst on the glucose end. I do fine but the fear is never far behind. Keep hanging in there. It will be better the next time.

Sherrin, thank goodness you were conscious and able to monitor what was going on. This is exactly why we tell people having surgery that they should have someone with them at all times in the hospital - to keep an eye out for the substandard care like you received.

I'm glad you made it home in one piece - still breathing. You should write a letter to the hospital.

Thanks for your support. I took names and wrote down everything. I have learned my past experiences of what to do. When I had my replacement surergy in Cleveland Clinic my daughteer the Rn was in between jobs and took off the week to be with me. You wouldn't believe how short on their staff they were in 1999 when I was there. The poor RN's were over worked. There was one night when I was running a fever and the Rn din't have a aide the at night so he left me to take my own temperture. I told him I wasn't taking anyone else's. My room mate was a women who came for a consult for sometime else and ended up having a triple by-pass. She had no family there and I felt so sorry for her. Me & my family took her in to arms. She & her family was from the east coast. She was so weak she couldn't open her juice her milk. I know GOD put me there for a reason! They even ask family members to help tranport you to tests because they were short staffed. I really did't mind because I didn't have to wait around for a long rime to get back to my room. People think theses kinda of things only go on at little hosp. but as you see here that wasn't the case here.

Sherrin,
Glad to hear you are doing well despite your experiences.
When I had my last surgery, everyone here in Cincinnati told me I should go to Christ Hospital because they did more VR than any other area hospital. I did some research, talked to some nurses and met with my surgeon. I made a decision to have my surgery at Jewish Hospital because they WERE a smaller hospital with a relatively new OHS program. However, I had an excellent surgeon (who practiced at Christ Hospital also) and he said the program at Jewish was better because the people cared more since it was so fresh to them.
I had better care at Jewish Hospital than any other hospital I had ever been in (and that's been quite a few over the years). I had no after surgery fevers, no infections, very little pain, etc. etc. I know we've discussed statistics here many times and I am not convinced that the more you do things, the more you do it better. I think routine can sometimes give people an attitude that they have it down pat and don't need to pay as much attention.
Now - I am not knocking CC or any other big facility. I am just saying that "practice makes perfect" may not always be an accurate statement.

Hi Gina,
I was the same with me when I decided to have my second surgery. Jewish Hosp. In Lou. was know for OHS but I chose the smaller Hosp. because that is where I had everything else done. Even my daughter the RN wanted me to go there but when it came sown to it I made the decided to go to Norton's. I have never regeted it.I came through with flying colors. And never looked back and bee grateful for everyday they I have with my family and friends. Espically for this web sight. Hank& Michelle are our angels and I hope they know it.I could never thank them enough for what they do. Ross too!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi sherrin,
haven't been around much, but i'm glad to see you are doing better after that awful experience.... hospitals can kill you if you don't advocate for yourself or your family. we had a similar experience a few months back when my dad had complications from surgery and coumadin. the hospital nearly killed him when he went back! it's a good thing my brother and i aren't afraid to speak up!
in any case, good luck with the surgery and hope you stay well.
all the best, sylvia
