Bina, I don't know my birds.....but it kinda of looks like this one I found sleeping on one of the lights in front of my garage the other day....except for the pointed ears ( a vulcan owl?). Don't see many owls in the middle of a sub-division these days.

I was gonna say pygmy owl but I thought they liked much warmer climates

So my 1st guess is the Boreal Owl.

Second guess is the Burrowing owl.

What do I win?

Wayne yours is an Eastern Screech owl....great pic, thanks!
The owls are having a terrible winter because of the depth of the snow.
Hunting is extremely difficult.

Okay, it's the Northern saw-whet owl, aka the Acadian owl. aka the Queen Charlotte owl, aka the sparrow owl aka some other names.

Quite tame and approachable in the daytime.

SUPERBOB took a quick flight up there to check it out. :p

Thanks for identifying it. I was quite surprised how close I could get to it and it didn't seem to mind. First time I've seen an Owl up close except at the zoo. I haven't seen it since the day I took the picture.
