Hi everyone! Sorry that it has taken me almost 2 weeks post-op to send a message that everything is fine and I am on the mend.
My surgery was Tuesday, Feb 10-in at 7:30 am (walked in extremely calm) and from what my husband Joe tells me he got the call at 1:30 pm that they were done. Joe wasn?t allowed to see me for 3 more hours because when I woke up, I started to struggle with the ICU staff and tried to pull out the breathing tube ?don?t remember any of it but Joe says I was in ?real distress? (even after having my wrist bound to the bed!).
Wednesday, more of my family (2 at a time) was able to come in to see me. Chest tubes removed (don?t remember). I actually remember getting sick all over the Hematologist! Thursday, they moved me out of ICU and into a room (Joe was able to join me then and stayed with me). Was able to start liquids and saltines and moved into some solid food by Friday. Saturday (Valentines Day-Joe gave me beautiful heart shape earrings!), Hematology (the WEAKEST LINK of my experience) was concerned about my low platelet count and discussed a transfusion but after much consideration, they monitored it up until the time they discharged me on Sunday, Feb 15-a week from today!
Its great to be home-Joe and I have had a difficult time trying to manage all the meds at first but now I am down to 3 per day plus some percocet for pain.
If it weren?t for my husband, Joe, I would not have made it! He was with me all day, every day, took me to the bathroom, helped me in the shower, checked to make sure I had clean linens, checked that my meds were given to me (and when), managed family visits, planning meals at home, getting me out to walk twice a day, screening phone calls. I guess he heard everything I had been telling him about the surgery and recovery over the last 9 months!
Anyways, I am back and will be participating as a member who has made it! Thank you again for all your support and information that you had provided to my family and myself over the last 9 months. Oh, by the way, THE WAIT IS THE WORST PART OF THE WHOLE THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
