I have developed tennis elbow from a trauma after my shoulder surgery to the nerves in my arm. Has anyone had this and if so, how long did it take to get better? I am just miserable since I hurt in 2 different areas.Help?

Marcia:

In the fall of 1997, I had "cat show elbow" in my left arm. :D
It was the same thing as "tennis elbow," but mine was caused by lugging a Vari-Kennel 100 (with a squirmy cat inside) through various airports in the U.S.
My PCP gave me some anti-inflammatory Rxes and had me wear a black wrap/brace on that arm around the elbow.
I switched to using a fold-up luggage carrier for the Vari-Kennel and avoided using that arm as much.
After about 2-3 months, it was back to normal.

Then, because I had switched to overusing the other arm, I had "cat show elbow" in the right arm.

Good luck with getting your arm back to normal!

I have lots of experience with Golfers elbow which is the inside bony point of the elbow but it hurts just as much as Tennis elbow and is equally as disabling. I spose I should be grateful its usually only 1 arm at a time that is bad.

Anyways , for almost instant relief I use ice-packs. If its really really painful say YES when offered a cortisone shot. They sound scary and seem bad but give long-lasting relief even from chronic conditions.

Depending on whether or not the nerve is damaged or just being intermittantly squished it could take around 3 months of rest for the nerve to recover...I know its a long time for an arm to be out-of-action,. so maybe investigate some steroid shots to speed the healing process. Splinting of the arm in a neutral position at night can also help. Try these options before you consider surgery.

P.S....Google has tons if sites with info on Tennis elbows (Lateral Epicondylitis).
