I am thinking about drinking tea this winter--green and chai tea.I generally drink one to two cups of coffee everyday but am really craving tea now. Does anyone know if green or chai tea will affect warfarin? Any comments?

Not sure about chai tea, but you'll have to drink gallons of green tea every day to have an effect with your warfarin/INR.

So enjoy the green tea for now.

I have been researching various foods and their effect on Warfarin and INR levels.

As Freddie says you likely have to drink ALOT of green tea - see this link to a research/case study finding: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10332534. This person went pretty heavy on the green tea!

For what its worth here is what 1 doctor at the Mayo Clinic said (references green tea). http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/warfarin/AN00455

This does not reference Green tea but has a few other things. http://www.bcguidelines.ca/pdf/warfarin_management_appendix_a.pdf

Lots of info out there it seems.

T in YR and Freddie,
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate your input.
Thanks for the links. Have been on warfarin over a year now and am still learning...thanks for your help!

I've been on Warfarin for 22 years and I'M still learning. (This is where having my own meter and doing weekly testing have been valuable. If I've consumed something that had me concerned about impact on my INR, or changed suppliers of warfarin, I may have tested a bit sooner than weekly)
