Hello was wondering has anyone had a TAVR done on a bioprostetic mitral valve..
Docs are thinking of doing it on me to stablize the mitral valve until bioprostetic aortic valve goes from moderate to severe and then they will change both at same time

Shirley, I don't think anyone here has had that done. Can you tell us more about why the doctors want to do the TAVR? Is the mitral valve failing? And do they have a prediction as to how long it might take for the aortic valve to go from moderate to severe? I know they can't say exactly, but if it will be years until you need the aortic valve replaced, and the mitral valve is failing, it might make sense to do a TAVR on the latter to avoid two more OHSs instead of one more.

Oh, and I suppose it would be a TMVR since it's the mitral valve. Have you done any research on it?

Thanks for the response..
Dr. said. I am a extremely complicated case due to the aortic valve sitting a little crooked due to one side of it dropping and has no explanation why it did that..
And when they put the mitral valve in for the second time it had issues from the start due to being to small of a valve and it is seated crooked and creating a problem for the aortic valve cause they are so close together.
So the bioprostetic mitral valve has become severly stenotic and the aortic valve is moderate.
They are saying to do a TAVR on mitral now and that most likely in about a year or so I would have to have both done at same time.. the tavr in the mital can last up to 5 plus years if there wasn't a problem with the aortic but because there is they will change the mitral when aortic gets worse even if it is still stable cause they won't be able to do anything with it again if it fails after doing ohs in aortic.
I hope that makes sense . It's very complicated to explain..
I live in the corpus Christi Texas area and have seen valve surgeons in San Antonio Texas and even they said I have to go to Houston cause they have more experience with dealing with this type of situation.. not sure if local Dr was inexpernced in valve replacement or if my body is just mad cause they messed with it..
The report states in 2009 the only thing wrong with my heart was aortic stenosis.. then 2011 had bypass cause of post on aortic valve and a mvr with mechanical and then 2012 mvr with bioprostetic and then now bioprostetic is stenosis.
Very very complicated and fusterating.

Yes, that is very complicated but makes sense as you explain. I wonder why they don't want to replace them both now, even though the aortic valve has only mild stenosis, instead of putting you through two surgeries within a year.

I live a little south south of Houston. My cardio is Dr. Jose Diez with Baylor Clinic. One of his areas of expertise is TAVR. If you decide to consult with him, private message me and I'll send you my name to use as a reference.

Thank you you for explaining the situation. Wishing you the best going forward.

Hugs, Michele

They said the aortic valve is 60% stenosis and the Mitral valve is about 85% said because of the risk of the 4th reopening that the aortic valve has to be more stenosised than it is. Thanks for the dr info. Right now I am seeing Dr Estep and the valve specialist named Dr Little they are at the Methodist DeBakey Cardiology Associates
