Hi all,

My mother is being put forward for TAVI for her aortic valve replacement (due to stenosis). Surgeon isn't keen to do open surgery on her - background synopsis: 77yo, long term hypertension, stage 3 kidney failure, diabetic, bi-ventricular pacemaker, prior ascites suspected due to leaking tri-cuspid valve (which they are not intending on replacing), and previous open mitral valve replacement (some 20+ years ago). She is scared to go forward with the TAVI procedure, and I am looking for prior patient's experiences with this procedure (preferably in a somewhat similar demographic, but all input from anybody who has been through this procedure would be valuable).

Also, should anybody have had any experience with any cardiac surgery at Hammersmith Hospital (UK), would really appreciate your opinion on the overall experience too. She has scared herself due to reading the horror stories in the tabloids about the treatment of elderly while in hospital, and would love to be able to reassure her. For what it's worth, all our prior dealings with the hospital have been very professional and have no complaints.

Thanks so much!

Can't help as never had this done! but have you had a look on the GUCH website with re to Hammersmith hospital? maybe someone on there could help (www.guch.org.uk)
Good luck to your mam!
Love Sarah xxxxxxxxx
