Does anyone know...it's ok for me to get a tattoo right now isn't it? Would I just do the pre med thing like I do when I go to the dentist? I found a web site that basically said to just pre med but I just want to verify and see if anyone knows for sure.

I'm actually not even sure yet what I want but my best friend and I want to get really small matching tat's somewhere and we're in the process of picking it out, once we figure that out we're getting it. Plus I inquired about getting a tattoo over the surgical scar as well.

Tattoo's O.K... :) ..But, NO navel ring like Ross has on his Avatar :D :D He keeps pulling on it.. :p :p :p :p Bonnie

Tat's ok if on anticoagulants????

You sure? Just checking cause it seems like, given the nature of, that it wouldn't be...

Always wanted a small butterfly on the back of my wrist but never had the nerve.

Go for it but be sure and take antibiotics and use a reputable artist.

Yes, but it will likely smudge and maybe get ugly :(

Can I get a tattoo while taking warfarin? I checked with John Partlow of Dragon's Lair in Pueblo, Colorado. His answer was that he would not do one on someone taking warfarin. The decreased clotting ability of the blood will cause the ink to smudge. You will wind up with one of those tattoos that looks like a sailor got during World War II. One netizen wrote that she got them when her INR was below 2.0. An INR below 2.0 is essentially the same thing as taking no warfarin -- you have little or no protection from a clot -- your blood clotting ability is about the same as normal.

I had heard the same thing. So Carista, if you're going to get tattooed, do it now. I always joked to my family that I was going to get a long stemmed rose tattooed on my scar. If it had been possible, I may have done it. :)

My sister-in-law wants to take me to get a tat for my 30th in September. Always wanted a heart on my ankle. Now I know I'd better pre-medicate, too.

*raises eyebrow*

It would've given new meaning to the romantic moment....

Not that I know what that is all about, anyway :(.

*sighs*

Sadly...or humorously, depending on your point of view, most of my friends/family always said I should get the MC emblem (Knight Crest/Shield) tattoed onto my chest.

*shrugs*

Not sure that would've looked all that great, tho....

"Most Complete Lineup," Chevy claims in ad ... but how?

Yeah, I'll have to get my tat's now I guess, just in case I end up on coumadin. I decided against the surgical scar tat anyway cause if I do end up having to have 2 surgeries...which most likely I will...then it would just make the tat look ugly once they re-open me. Oh well, I'll just consider the scar a tattoo....a VERY expensive tattoo at that. :D

Before Mike's surgery one of our friends (who is highly tattooed) suggested that Mike get a chain saw just to the right of where the scar would be! I thought it was funny but Mike didn't - got a little angry - jeez, lighten up, wouldya?

That's pretty funny. Or you could do a hand holding a scalpel, or an arrow with "Cut on line to open".

My surgeon told of a man he did OHS on that had an elaborate tattoo on his chest of Macaws. When it came time to close, he handed the sutures to his resident and said "I'd better see all those birds match up."

Karlynn, that's classic!

The other one I thought about before his surgery was...you know those Pillsbury cans that you smack the line for them to pop open? Have the little Pillsbury doughboy next to a can of croissants or something!

Oo, that makes me go "ouch!", remembering that nasty sternum pain post-surgery. But that's pretty hilarious! :)

Oh my goodness, yes....a very expensive tattoo....aye.

*shakes head*

Hey thanks, it's nice to know I might not have to worry about doing it all before my surgery after all. I appreciate it. I see you're in MN as well! How about those Vikes.... I don't think this year is our year. Just a hunch.

just be sure to plan out the tat....i had mine done when i was 21 and then surgery 10 years later. now it looks like my m&m is pointing at my scar saying what the *!@#%....lol it's pretty funny now and gets a good laugh. the pic i tried to upload was from 3 months post surgery but it would not let me. went through the uploading process and completed...but never attached the pic....oh well...it is the same one that was in the scar thread that coryp started awhile back.
