Does anyone know if it is OK to tan with mechanical and bovine valves:confused: I just wanted to ask before I call my cardio. I'm going away in a few weeks and rather not be lily white. I went pre-OHS, and yes, I know it is frowned upon by many:rolleyes:

While it's frowned upon, by even myself, I don't think there is anything set in stone saying you can't. Now it may be an issue with some medications, so you might want to consider that, if for no other reason.

It would not negatively affect the valve but, like Ross said, check regarding meds.

I know there is definitely a problem if you're taking Dyazide (a diuretic). It warns about being out in the sun and I would assume that goes for tanning beds also. I used to take Dyazide but not anymore. I'd check all the meds you're taking to be on the safe side. LINDA

Have you thought about that spray-on stuff? Not the old do-it-yourself orangey-looking lotions, but rather something they can do for you at a salon or spa.

I tan every now and then, with my tissue valve. No reason why I couldnt. But, to echo everyone else check about meds. Ussually any decent salon will have a list of medications that will cause sensitivity to sun. Or on the perscription itselt.

I would recomend a good lotion if you go tanning. It will help you darken quicker, so you dont have to tan is much. Get one with a double bronzer or tripple bronzer, and it will also have some sunless, so you get instant tan. :) Its good to get a tan before vacations because it can help prevent the burn on vacation. :)
