Hi!

I am a newbie. I am looking at AVR surgury soon. I go in for a angio next Monday. What sort of symtoms should I expect up to surgery. I had a little epesode last night with my heart beating hard, and cold sweats. My wife, who is a nurse, threatened to take me to the ER. So, I am staying home from work waiting on a call from my cardiologist. I just wanted some input from you all.

Hello and welcome

As far as symptoms, you may not have any, then again, you may have lots. Tiredness, breathlessness, a sense of wrongness within, possibly fainting, dizziness, visual disturbances..........On and on the list goes.

Welcome to the forum! Everyone is different. Some have multiple sympotms (sob, rhythm irregularities, etc.) and others have no symptoms. Dick had only one major symptom before surgery- he fainted on the tennis court. In retrospect he thinks there might have been symptoms that he ignored like heaviness in his chest when swimming in very cold water. It's always a good idea to check out any symptoms with the cardio. You will know a lot more once you have the angio on Monday. Sending you our best wishes and please know that you have a lot of friends here willing and able to answer all kinds of questions.

Possibly visual disturbances (ocular migraines, double vision, other oddities); swollen ankles; stomach discomfort; headaches; muscle cramping in your back; feelings of doom; asthma; tachycardia and arrythmias; dizziness; shortness of breath. Very odd collection.

I think the tiredness and shortness of breath after very little exertion seem to be the ones that creep up on most people. Just felt like we were out of shape.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome!
I agree with Georgia. I thought I was just out of shape and getting fat (due to my SOB and fatigue, and swollen ankles and feet). I'm hoping that my asthma is heart-related and that it goes away after I have my PVR on July 14.

You'll find lots of helpful info and people on this site.

Good luck on Monday!
Pamela

Thanks for all your input. Everything is OK for now. I just have to expect that there will be some changes. I have always been able to do what I want (at my speed) so this is like someone has thrown a spanner in the works. Thanks again.
