Hi can anyone give me some suggestions that I could ask my cardiologist for tomorrow when I see him about SVT.

In the last week have to been to the ER 3 times for this and the cardizem and digoxin don't really seem to ever do anything, the toprol helps some..

Anyways this last episode/er visit was in SVT for like 2 hours and tachycardic form a while after that even after leaving ER. It was under better control but still miserable.

What meds might you all reccomend and what about EP study? Any experiences with electrophysiology study and EP doctors?

Thanks,

Erica

Hi Erica,

After a few trips to ER for rapid atrial fib and bursts of SVT as well, I ended up being put on Flecainide. I now take 150mg twice a day but have been as much as 200mg twice a day. It doesn't make me nearly as tired as the cardizem and digoxin and seems to really help keep the arrhythmias to a minimum.

Some doctors shy away from the drug since it had a nasty history of causing "sudden death" when it was prescribed for ventricular arrhythmias. A whole book was written about it. When prescribed for atrial arrhythmias it has proved itself to be very valuable.

Hi Erica,
My boyfriend went into the ER with SVT in January. After an overnight amioderone drip which got him back into sinus rhythm, he was prescribed sotalol 40mg twice a day which he has been taking for the past 6 months. He's had no recurrence of the SVT, although he now gets a lot of ectopic beats at night which are bothersome. We're not sure yet if that's because of the sotalol or unrelated.

Erica,

I'm taking a calcium channel blocker, Verapamil for angina and infrequent tachycardia. According to my doc, I'm still years away from surgery. I've heard that calcium channel blockers can help with fast arrythmias, but this is a question for your cardio.

Best,
