Birky

I am to the point of complete frustration with Drs. I am supposed to have my shoulder operated on 10/30 and now I have ran into a big snag between the Dr.s. I saw my Cardiologist last Friday and had a stress test and echo for a cardiac release. Everything was fine. We talked and decided on the Lovenex versus being an inpatient. He then faxed everything to the Ortho Doc. They called him and asked him if he would manage the Lovenox and he told them no the same as he told me. He must have gotten his back up and then faxed them again and said that since the Ortho did not want to manage the Lovenox, then I should be an inpatient the night before and put on heperin and then stay overnight the day of surgery and start on Lovenox. I then talked to the Ortho's office and they suggested asking my PCP who is right here in Peru to manage the Lovenox and he agreed. I then called the Cardio back and told them that he would be handling it if they would okay a day surgery which I want. We are 2 hours away from Chicago-Loyola, where I would have the surgery. The Cardio is the other direction in Peoria which is 1 hour away so it would be logical to have my PCP follow up. My Cardio stated last Friday that he would not manage the Lovenox and the Ortho should. I am now in the middle of this mess and maybe will not have the surgery. I feel comfortable with coming home and having my PCP do the Lovenox. Hospital is 3 blocks away from my house. I think the Cardio doc got mad when the other doc asked him to manage the Lovenox. Who knows with the Drs. egos? Help, Help, Help,. If I have to be an inpatient he cannot do it to after the first of the year and it has gotten so painful I don't know if waiting 3 mos is an option. He is supposed to be one of the best and I wanted to stay with him but if push came to shove , I guess I could go somewhere else. Any sugesstions, Thanks,

I really don't have experience with this issue, but going in the hospital the day before for heparin seems like a rather short time. I've heard of having to be admitted 3 -5 days prior, but never just the day before. But I may be missing something.

surgery

When I had my hand surgery last year, I was admitted the night before and then stayed 3 days to get the INR up. It was a pain the dupa since I was getting stuck every 6 hours. If I do the Lovenox, I will go off the coumadin and when my INR is 1.9 I will start the shots. Stop the night before surgery and then start again 6 hours after surgery. I hope I have this right since I have talked to so many Drs. offices in the last 2 days. Dr. Marra at Loyola is supposed to do the surgery at Oak Park Surgery Center. They are going to call me back and let me know if he feels comfortable with me going home the same day since the PCP will be doing the Lovenox. I then have to get the Cardio to release me for day surgery. We discussed this last Friday and were in agreement that it would be day surgery and now it has changed again. Why is everything so complicated?
