I think Im ready. Ever since my second opinion at Mayo when I scheduled with Dr Sundt, I have been amazingly calm. I feel lucky to be going to a good place with a good Dr.
I just hope my kids and husband make it though this with me! I had them watch the heart surgery video from MAYO tonight, just so they could become familiar with some of the terms, as well as what I can look forward to. Granted, my kids are 2 and 5, so probably didnt get a whole lot out of it, but they paid attention and seemed to ask appropriate questions (actually they will be 3 and 6 in July- makes a difference). Since we are going out of town, the whole family is staying in a hotel, so I am much more occupied with packing for everyone else than for myself- I figure I will get most of what I need in the hospital.
Though it has been nearly 11 years ago, I seem to remember not using a whole lot of what I packed, so I dont think I will spend much time on that. I know it sounds vain, but I wonder if I will be using make up in the hospital? I think I am going to have a lot of visitors, and dont want to look horrible! So these are the silly things keeping me up at night. Tomorrow night is my 2 year olds dance recital, so that will keep us busy, then Tuesday we will leave for Rochester. Since I work for a school district, tomorrow is my last official day until Sept. I think Im ready. Im actually oddly excited- to get this over with, once and for all!
Thanks for your support and feedback!

Good luck and I didn't use any make up in the hospital for sure. my advice would be to keep visitors to a minimum. Keep us updated when you can

makeup or fanny flashing

Hopefully we dont overlap while in Rochester.... June 23 for me.

I dont worry so much about makeup as whether my fanny is poking out of the lovely hospital gown while walking.

I plan on mooning everone I can!

When I had my open heart, I really did not want visitors. I could not stay awake long enough to talk to any one and then when they did visit, I forgot they came and what we talked about. (I had my heart shocked when I went in to ER and they gave me a shot so I would not remember the shock) Worked well, I forgot the whole first week. I just was not up to many visitors. Everyone is different. Good luck and prayers to you.

Maybe Im crazy, but I look forward to visitors- I had them last time, and have had them after my two c-sections (I know, different surgery). For some reason I fear that I will be sitting around bored, since one of the nurses told me that I will likely be in longer than last time since I will need to wait until my blood levels are right before leaving, which i didnt have to worry about last time with a tissue valve. I just cant believe it has been 11 years already.

You sound prepared and in an EXCELLENT frame of mind,
Much Better than when you first joined our 'Valve Family'.

Some of our members didn't let their kids see mom/dad until they were out of the ICU and most of the tubes had been removed. Having your kids aware and involved seems like a good idea to me (but all my kids have 4 legs and fur coats).

Best Wishes.
