Hello all you good people!

I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis in February…complete surprise! Of course once that I knew, I recognized the different symptoms and things made more sense.

Saw a cardiologist last month after my echocardiogram and he said it was serious and would likely need valve replacement given my shortness of breath with pretty minimal exercise. I thought I was just overweight and out of shape! He scheduled me for neck doppler and heart cath. Fortunately they both came out well.."your pump is good" but yes, the a.s is serious.

I had my appointment with surgeon last week and we felt confident in him and I even cancelled an appointment with a surgeon in the bay area later this month. He called me 9pm that night after looking at my echo and said it is critical and I need surgery as soon as possible!!

I did a search and found this website…and have been here a lot the last few days! You are all awesome people and I feel so encouraged from reading all you experiences. I'm going in for pre-op stuff on Monday and will get more specifics then.

Thank you all so much for sharing your stories…can't wait to be "on the other side" of this!

Laurie

Good luck to you Laurie. I had pretty much the same thing. Just my aortic valve was bad and taking care of it sooner rather than later gives you a better prognosis later down the road. Hope you have a really fast recovery.

Hi Laurie,
After freaking out for a few days when I heard my doctor say "we need to fix this", I found this site. Until then I felt so alone, and nobody around me understood what I was going through. Why don't the doctors just tell you to go home and pull up valvereplacement.org? There is so much information and support here. Could have prevented a lot of my early anxiety and for sure boost my confidence. Wishing you all the best in this new journey.

Best of luck Laurie. When it comes as a surprise it can take the wind out of your sails a bit. Let us know how you get on.
