I was able to schedule my pretesting for early this morning so that I didn't have to starve myself for too long. They took blood and urine samples, plus did an EKG and chest x-ray (not sure why they did the x-ray seeing that I just had a catheterization. Perhaps so the surgeon doesn't get surprised by anything when he opens me up? To check for any masses on the lungs?)

I also watched a video about open heart surgery (which was not as cheesy as I had anticipated) and had a consultation with a nurse to go over how to use the spirometer(sp?) and to answer any questions. All in all it went very smoothly and I was surprised at how much calmer I had felt about this whole situation afterwards.

Less than a week to go. Let's do this thing! :)

I was surprised about how calm I was after the pre-admission stuff, too. I do recall, I was psyched up to get it over and done with afterwards. Keep busy this week and the surgey day will be here before you know it. Try to do some fun stuff.

Joel,

I'm glad you were able to visit your hospital and get comfortable with the procedures they will be following -- that is really important.

Here is a Web site I recently found that summarizes life after OHS in an easy-to-follow format -- http://www.heartsurgeons.com/ed5.html

I wish you all the best for a successful surgery and an uneventful recovery.

Stay strong!!

I had my pre-op at the hospital the day before my surgery. I also felt calm and ready to go. Maybe it was just resignation that the day was finally here. I was ready to get it over with.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and quick and easy recovery.
