In about 2 1/2 weeks I have to go in for ovarian cyst surgery. Because of my age 57 and being post menapause doctors think it could be ovarian cancer. His words "Its very supscious looking" divides the ovary right in half and its solid Not the good friendly liquid kind.

He said since I'm on coumadin and several other heart meds. That it would be just a lot easier to remove everything in the baby making/carrying region. Because the biopsy could miss cancer if they just removed the ovary and then find it later when more through biopsy is done. He would hate to have sent me home only to have to call me back in and have a redo to get it all out afterwards.

Yes he had me have blood test for CA125 results Monday on it.

He said it was a tricky job with the coumadin, but he would bridge me with lovenox.

But as with any surgery I'm a tad scared because this could throw out lots of clots.

And is it overkill to remove everything? What other things should I bring up next week when I remeet with the obgyn and partner who be doing the whole removal part?

I too had a total hysterectomy in 1997 at 46 years old. I had an ovarian cyst that had burst & had caused quite a mess inside but luckily I lived through that! They had also mentioned that it might be cancerous but it was NOT, thank God! :)

My gynocologist & cardiologist worked very closely together in my case; in fact my cardio was present at the operating room for a while, so I was well taken care of, Thank God. :)

As Oaktree mentioned, you must be very careful afterwards; avoid picking up things, no vaccuming for a long while!

Best wishes on your surgery; you'll be in my prayers! :)

You might want to do a search here on "Oophorectomy" which is the removal of ovaries.

I had my oophorectomy done laproscopically at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona back in June 2005. The surgeon who performed the procedure told me that he does hysterectiomies and even cancer surgery in the same mannar.

Recovery time is just a few days. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis.

Hope this link helps, especially post #10.

Thank you all for your encouraging messages. And Blanche thanks for the link on your surgery. I sorta am attached to all my parts. Seems like everytime they say something on me needs fixing they either then say OHHHH ya we gotta take out this part also or they add parts I don't want.

OBgyn said with all my heart issues I would be admitted day before and keep another nite. Did not want to do as outpatient surgery.

Got call today that I have to visit my Cardio to get his OK for surgery. YAY another bill to worry about. Is this always the case? You have to see Cardio if you having something done that isn't even heart related?

Lovenox...those are shots I give myself right - who writes the prescription for that? My regular doctor, the OBgyn or the Cardio doc? This is not fun. I don't like going through all this crud.

In my next life I'm coming back as dog...just lay around, bark at cats and get to ride in fast cars with the window down and wind blowing through my ears.
