After having had to jump through a few unexpected hoops (sound familiar to anyone?), including a brain MRI, I'm first up at Ohio State's Ross Heart Hospital on Monday morning. Dr. Juan Crestanello presiding.
Why a brain MRI you ask? I've experienced visual changes for nearly a month, mostly vertigo type symptoms. The ID and surgeon had to rule out stroke, even though that seemed unlikely. Ativan got me through the MRI; without it I would not have tolerated lying motionless for 45 min.
Mitral valve is about a 50-50 shot at replacement; aortic valve to be replaced with Edwards Perimount bovine device. I add more to that topic on the valve choice page. BTW: Dr. Crestanello did NOT completely rule out a 20-mile cycling event 5 wks post-op. Granted, he was encouraging either!
No turnin' back now.
