hey just want to let you all know that my surgery has been moved up to this Monday, Oct 19. One of my surgeons patients asked him to reschedule for some reason, giving me the opportunity to have the surgery done sooner. I will be having the surgery done at Emory University in ATL by Dr. Chen. He will be doing a valve repair, replacing the aortic root and maybe part of the ascending too, I think.

I had one surgery scheduled for Oct 22 with a different surgeon and canceled it soon after scheduling. I decided instead to have Dr. Chen do my surgery which would have been scheduled for Nov 12, which has now been moved up to Monday.

I will try to post or have someone post for me to keep you all up to date.

Less time in the waiting room is great! Especially since you were originally prepared for the 22nd and then had to wait longer to be able to go with your preferred surgeon. Now you have the best of both worlds - the surgeon you want and an earlier date! Before you know it you will be over the mountain. You are in good company now - the group of October surgeries continues to grow. Hope you have an easy week as you prepare for your surgery and wishing you all the best on the 19th. Looking forward to reading your updates!

Less time in the waiting room is really much better....lots of luck with your surgery! It will just be a memory soon! See you on the other side of the mountain!

Scuba_898,

Yes, less time to think and get this done an over with! I like Nadine's comment that you are now getting the best of both worlds.

Sending my very best wishes and prayers for a successful surgery and smooth recovery. We will look forward to an update.

Good luck with your surgery. You'll be recovering in no time and wonder what all the fuss was about. I'm a couple of weeks behind you having cancelled a surgery that should be happened on Tuesday of this week with a local surgeon to a later date with someone I'm sure will do a better job.

Scuba, you are practically there. I don't know about your experience of hospitals but I had never been a patient in one before my AVR 3 weeks ago. With people coming to check on you throughout the day and night, it can be disorienting and resting can be difficult. As well, when you enter the institution you sort of loose your identity....clothes, cellphone, wallet, jewlery and become sort of an extension of the bar code on your wrist band. I found it very comforting to get back into some of my own clothes as soon as possible - sort of slipping back into normal life. I didn't feel like reading very much but it was nice to be able to call my friends and family on my own phone. So pack your bag for the day you get out of the ICU and into a recovery room. And don't forget to let us know how things are going with you.

Glad to hear you do not have to wait until November. Praying for a successful surgery and recovery for you. Hope you get to enjoy your upcoming weekend before surgery. Prayers.

I was wondering what was going on with you! Glad to hear your day is close, you'll have a fresh scar for Halloween! ;) Glad all the waiting and deciding is over, you're almost there! I'll be thinking of you, wishing you a smooth surgery and recovery!
