After another painful week I had another ultrasound done and there is a big cyst on my right ovary this time. My GYN/ONC agrees with my thoughts that when I ovalate that my INR/PT levels get higher therefore it causes me to bleed into a cyst and cause so much pain. This is the 4th major surgery in 3 years! Enough already! Sorry, just wanted to whine for a minute. My surgery is scheduled for March 12th but I go into the hospital 2 days prior to go on a Heparin drip. She said I will probably be in for 10 days or so. She doesnt think any of the cysts are cancerous, bit due to my family history and high CA-125 levels, she is being cautious. Please say a prayer for me.

Hi Alicia,

You will be in my thoughts and prayers for smooth sailing.

It's funny how females that still have monthly concerns react to the Coumadin. My INR usually takes a dump at that time of the month. Bleeding is horrific though. Go figure. Did not have a care in the world prior to sugery. I cannot agree with those who say "Coumadin does not cause women additional concerns". Have been staring a hysterectomy in the face for a few years and just can't "find a good time" if you know what I mean.

Actually, I know it's the "denial factor" that I require more surgery. I truly feel for you.

Take good care and please keep us posted on your recovery.

Hi Alicia,

Sorry to hear that you have to have yet another surgery. Are you going to have a full hysterectomy? I had a full hysterectomy at the age of 32, that was 7 years ago and then I just had a Mitral Valve replacement 3 months ago. So I had them in the opposite order of you, didn't have to worry about the Coumadin factor. I have felt so much better though since my hyst. I was in constant pain and just didn't feel good at all. The surgery really wasn't too bad, I was painting my son's room 2 weeks later (don't tell my Dr.) I hope your's goes as well as mine did!

I will be saying a prayer for you and waiting to hear how the surgery went.

Thinking of you,
Dee

Alicia,

I've been whining non-stop over in the head cold thread. I think your whining is much more warranted given what you've been through. I'll be thinking of you and I hope everything turns out well for you!

Alicia,
If you can't whine, then there's a lot of us that need to shut up too!!!!:)

I hope your surgery and recovery goes smoothly. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Alicea - Sorry to hear you need more surgery, however, they will finally get it right and you will be better and feel better. March is not very far away and I am wishing you the best of luck. I just drove through Currituck Co, NC this afternoon and maybe you enjoyed the snow if you are that far north.

Alicia,

I think gyno surgery is something to whine about! I had an ovary removed years ago because of an abscess. Unfortunately, the surgeon had to do a large incision. I hope that your surgery will be less invasive.

Once I recovered from the surgery, I couldn't believe how much better I felt.

Alicia:

Good luck with your surgery.

I had a total hysterectomy 19 years ago at age 34. Precancerous condition plus heavy endometriosis. Very glad now not to worry whether a hysterectomy might be in the cards for me...
My mom stayed with me a couple of days after hysterectomy. Didn't sit on me tight enough -- I pulled a few stitches (internal) trying to reach for a cookie sheet in an overhead cabinet.
So, do be very careful post-op with OB/GYN surgery, wherever the incision is.

Alicia,
If it's appropriate, compassionate and caring to feel badly for someone facing difficulties, why shouldn't be feel badly for ourselves when faced with the same? It took me 3 years of therapy and two graduate degrees in psychology to figure out that it's just fine to whine...and then move onto dealing with the task at hand. Indulge yourself a little, you can do the maturity thing soon enough.
Good luck,
Sue

Hi Alicia-

I put your surgery on the calendar and I noticed that Al Lodwick is also having surgery that day. So you have some company, and fine company it is.

Hi Alicia,

If anyone should have the right to whine, it's you! You've been through so much, but your posts leave me with the impression that you're a fighter.

I just had day surgery today, just an endometrial ablation and a removal of a polyp. Easy stuff compared to OHS! They took me off my coumadin last week and started me on fragmin injections Saturday. I start back on coumadin tomorrow along with the fragmin. It gets complicated when you have to start fooling around with the blood thinners, even for a simple procedure like mine.

Best wishes to you. I'll be thinking of you!!

Boy, sometimes the "fun" just never seems to stop does it? Sorry to hear you have to go in for another surgery. I hope it all goes well and will be sending positive thoughts you way.

All the best
Anna : )

Sue,

Thanks so much for your insight. I had never considered that point of view.

Thanks for all the encouragement and support. Surgery will go fine Im sure. I have to stay positive...I had a partial hysterectomy in 1995 and for the last year (exactly after starting Coumadin) I have been plaged with difficult ovarian pain. The cysts come and go but now this one is pretty large and since I have a strong family history for cancer AND with my heart problems, my GYN sent me to a great GYN/ONC just in case it is cancerous (which Im sure its not). Im just a wee bit worried about the cancer possibility. Who wouldnt be? Ive had 2 open heart surgeries and breezed thru them so this will be a piece of cake (carrot cake LOL)
Thanks again to all..

Ali
