I live in Alaska, and one day will have to undergo aortic valve replacement...sooner than later I am led to believe. On that account I suppose I should look for A surgeon. Or should I just take the cardiologist advice as gospel. Its all pretty unbelievable and I haven't got a clue on the steps, if any, I should take.
Does anyone know about valve replacement in Alaska, or have recommendations, suggestions, advice? I live in the boonies and have to travel quite aways to get Anchorage

Hi fellow Alaskan! As Blanche says come on inside its a great group of supportive folks. But as I live in Anchorage just to get you started:

Alaska Heart Institute is premium Cardio group at Providence Hospital they would do testing and pre/followup care. I love them!

My surgeon was Dr. Pedro Valdes for the surgery he has office both at Providence and Alaska Regional. I highly recommend Dr. Valdes. He does has a partner Dr. Jones who did followup care on me who also does heart surgery.

Good luck and if I can be any further help just yell.

I'm also from Alaska... here in Juneau there are no cardiologists however. I've flown south for everything that needed to be done or for help. Apparently, a cardiologist from Virginia Mason does come up to Juneau one day each month. But, surgeries or anything complex - fly south...
