And who says surgeons are unfeeling?

This echos the thoughts I've had the last few days. I happened to be able to get my medical records from heart surgery I had almost 40 years ago. I googled the doctors name and up popped his picture and an email address. It was surreal. So I emailed him and two weeks later I got a reply! Not only did I get a reply, I got an enthusiastic, warm, fatherly reply! It turns out the military surgeon is a nice guy!! I think I watch too many shows that portray surgeons as doctors who became surgeons so they didn't have to deal with people while they're awake.

Great story Rob!

Great story Rob!

However, history is replete with stories of how medical professional make sacrifices like this, but they rarely get reported. The media tends to want to find bad news. Is hard to get people excited about spreading the positive news such as this or honoring them for their deeds!:(

Another lesson I take from this is people really need to know how absolutely blessed we are to live in this great country and how it's people give so much back to the World- Especially on this weekend! :)

I and many others on this site would not be alive, if we lived anywhere else
in the World!

Another parallel:

"The Colonel" as I'll call him also wrote that he had done the same repair on a six year old Vietnemese girl while he was stationed there (probably as a combat surgeon). He said he often thinks of her and how she would be a mother by now.
