I had gotten a Coaguchek last year, immediately before thy discontinued it. That in and of itself did not make me happy. Anyway, I stopped using it because of the cost of supplies, mostly having to use a lot of controls. When reviewing the cost from QAS and the in-clinic, I chose in-clinic. Is there a machine that does not have a lot of cost (supplies)? I realize QAS makes most of their money from supplies. Can someone give me some idea about another machine as far as supply costs - what about those with "on board" controls?

Pat:

I don't have a CoaguChek, but I believe that many who have a CoaguChek don't run controls for each & every test, only when they open a new box of strips. I'm sure some CoaguChek user will correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I would suggest you price around for testing supplies. If you change vendors, your doctor will have to write you a new Rx for them, but that's no big deal.

I have a ProTime 3; I just ordered a new box of cuvettes & Tenderlettes (25 costs $187.50 from the vendor I use to stay in network). That's $7.50/test. Previously, I had been paying $325 for 25 ($13/test).
