I recently started substitute teaching for the schools in our area. Since I am new at it I get more teacher's aide jobs than actual teaching jobs. This is great because I get to familiarize myself with the student and schools without have to be in charge. Last week I worked one on one with a sixth grade student with some learning disabilities. I also worked at a special needs preschool. This week I am subbing all week at a pre-school. I am the aide for a four year old boy who has spina bifida. This little boy is so awesome. He has the best attitude. He is so outgoing and very ornory (what boy isn't, huh;) ). He is such an inspiration. I have been with him two days this week and will be there again on Friday. This has by far been my favorite subbing job yet. I just love this little boy. I really feel a connection to him. I highly recommend subbing to anyone who love kids.

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone.

My husband's been subbing since he retired 3 years ago. He's found a niche at Juvenile Detention and Gateway (drug rehab). Apparently a lot of people aren't comfortable subbing at these places, and he's been called a lot this year. The classes are small, Juvey has lots of cops around (unlike a couple of the high schools here in town), the kids at Gateway are highly motivated (if they screw up they go to jail), and he's had nothing but a good experience.

Jeff also subbed for a year before he started appraising and he went to the Juvenille Detention Center and the Juvenille Residential Center ( I think) One was a short stay facility and the other a long stay facility. He also found that a lot of people didn't want those jobs. They actually were his favorite places to go. He said the kids show you a lot more respect there. They know that if they mess up in class they lose privelages. He spent a lot of time there.

It's so great when you feel you really made a difference in someone's life, even if it is just something small, like giving them some attention.

I sub'd at my children 's Middle school for 4 years..(only 2 grades, 7th and 8th) Was also the President of the PTA for those 4 years. I loved that age 12,13.......Mostly, it was just babysitting and letting them do work from absent teacher.:D And, I got a whopping $12.00...a day:p :p 1979-1983...Those were the days when Pot, was something your Mama used to cook with...:p they (kids) were more into Learning, sports, cheerleading, ect....I have a Grandson in 8th grade now. thank goodness, his school is about the same...:) ( but, having a Father who is a Policeman, helps):D Dad is a little too strict on him..homework, ect..but I spoil him on weekends.:D Bonnie
