I came across this article and thought I would share it. This may provide some useful information to those of you trying to obtain a home INR testing unit. Perhaps some doctors may be more open to allowing people to self test.

Thanks for the reference Rob.

When my cardiologist filled out the Certificate of Medical Necessity, his reasons were:
- aortic valve replacement
- mechanical heart valve
- long term anticoagulation therapy
- requires frequent testing

I think we all should qualify just because of our condition. There are other studies that show weekly home testing, in concert with less frequent lab testing, assures were in our INR range a higher percentage of time. Studies also show that unstable INR's mean a much greater chance of future hospitalization. That's enough reason for me, I hope my insurance company agrees.

Hi im chris I totally agree with you .I had a AVR three yrs ago i think for about 2 yrs i was fine on the coumadin then my INR went hay wire in sept i was being as usual then i noticed one day bruses on my body and bleeding from my gums it wasnt much but it kept on even when i use cotton to obsorb it so i decided to call my dr i was feeling really weak too feeling terrible i thougth at first it ws my new meds i had been taking but realized it was coumadin i went to my dr couldnt see him so saw him PA he was so stubid he messured my bruses and took a look in my mouth the day before they said stop with the coumadin this dr was so dumb he didnt say chris get to the hosptizal asap anyway i went home noticed more bruses i called my older daughter i cried she said call the ambulience i called they wouldnt pick me up becasue they said the hospital was screening their paitence i mite have to wait in the waiting room for a long time i said forget my fiance took me i was lucky no one was there i went in the dr took one look at me and said get her some v-k i had my level checked he said it was really high blood was too thin by then i had so many bruses if you touched me i had them it was so alarming to me also i was really scared however i had a blessing the nite before from people in my chruch so i know that helped
