HI EVERYONE,
I HAD A MECHANICAL MITRAL VALVE REPLACEMENT ON 1/07/11. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MITRAL VALVE STENOSIS ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO. I GUESS I HAD RHEMATIC FEVER AS A CHILD, BUT NEITHER MY MOTHER NOR I REMEMBER. BEING 49 I THOUGHT I WOULD NOT BE NEEDING SURGERY FOR MANY YEARS, SINCE I WAS ASYMTOMATIC UNTIL THIS PAST 1 1/2 YEARS. STARTED GETTING SHORT OF BREATH ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO, BUT HAD BEEN SMOKING FOR 3O YEARS. SO I ASSOCIATED IT WITH SMOKING. QUIT SMOKING IN JAN 2010. I CONTINUED TO GET MORE AND MORE SHORT OF BREATH ESPECIALLY GOING UP STAIRS, WHICH I HAVE PLEANTY OF IN MY HOUSE. FINALLY WENT TO MY CARDIOLOGIST. ECHO SHOWED SIGNIFIGENT CHANGES FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. HEART CATH CONFIRMED SO.
HEALING WELL. STILL HAVING SOME PAIN IN MY INCISION, BACK AND NOW MY NECK. I STARTED CARDIAC REHAB 12 DAYS POST-OP.
I WANTED TO SAY HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE THIS WEB-SITE. I FOUND ALL THE ANSWERS I NEEDED RELATED TO THE STRANGE PAINS, FEELING ETC... THAT MY BODY HAS GONE THROUGH IN THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS. I JUST WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT BEFORE MY SURGERY. THE DRS DON'T HAVE THE ANSWERS FOR YOU WHEN YOU ASK WHY IM I NOT SLEEPING, WHY DOES MY BACK HURT SO MUCH. BEING A NURSE MYSELF I AM SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF FOR NOT INFORMED, READING, BROWSING THE WEB ENOUGH BEFORE SURGERY. INSTEAD I ASKED DRS AND A NURSE I KNOW WHO WORKS IN CARDIO WHAT TO EXPECT. IT IT NOT THE SAME AS HEARING IT FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS GONE THROUGH IT THEMSELVES.
