Hi All,
Just wanted to thank everyone who gave me advise on taking the stress test. Although I cancelled my first appointment (and spoke to my cardiologist first), I rescheduled and took the test on Friday. Was not bad at all - less stressful than I recall previous tests being. I have no idea what my results are yet - they were going to send them to my cardiologist for review. It took me 9 mins to get to my max. heart rate (180bpm). Does anyone know if that seems about normal? It was a pretty quick walk uphill (I would much rather have jogged on flat ground!) :D
Again, thanks for all the advise - much appreciated.

Hi Ashley,
I dont know what the acceptable range would be.. When I had my stress test, my cardiologist told me that if I could go 20 minutes then I would have to beg him to go to surgery. I was able to go about 11 minutes, HR 185-190 and stoped. That was my MAX. They told me to go harder than I would if I were out for a normal days jog. To push myself until I couldnt anymore.

I would imagine that for each patient it could be different because of age, physical ability, etc.

Sorry I cant offer anything else.. :)

My test was stopped because I had reached my max heart rate, definitely not because I was tired. I am curious if I got to my max heart rate faster than an average person. I wish they had given more feedback. The technician told me that it the test can last between 6 - 12 minutes, depending on the person, but that isn't too helpful.

My stress test which I took about 2 months ago took me 10mins to get to my max which was 180. They didn't stop me though, I told them to stop because I was tired. (I'm 26 w/aortic stenosis and ascending aortic aneurysm all moderate right now) My cardiologist told me that was good, that I was in good shape and that my heart condition was limiting me by about 20%. I took the stress test so I could know if I was limited at all in doing cardio because I wanted to be able to do at least 45mins a day. After the stress test my cardio said I could do as much cardio as I wanted.

I hope that answers some of your questions.
