Well I just had my second bout of strep throat within the past month. I'm on day three of amoxicillin and I woke up this morning and my throat looks a little bit worse than it originally did. So I'll be off to the doctor today to have him take another look at it. My wife jokingly said this morning, well maybe you need to have your tonsils out. Since I'm on warfarin how difficult the procedure will this be? I guess I would just like to hear from people who were on warfarin who had had there tonsils taken out and what their experience was and what potential problems and issues that arise from this. Thanks everyone!

For any surgery they would take you off the Coumadin several days before and bridge you with another blood thinner until 12 or 24 hours before surgery depending on the thinner. A set time (maybe a day) after surgery you would be restarted on both blood thinners until your INR level was therapeutic again. For me for various bridgings its been a few days to a week of both blood thinners.

Fingers crossed you don't need your tonsils out though!

I've had strep twice and both times, they kept giving me "alternative" antibiotics, like amoxicillin, to no avail, until they finally gave in and gave me real penicillin, which knocked it right out.
