I am post surgery about 6.5 weeks for a MVR. I had arrhythmia after 3 weeks and they started the Amiodarone loading, along with the regiment of beta blockers that I have been on for years.

In the last week or se I have had a very unusual rhythm. My heart rate would go down to what seem like 40 to 50 bpm, but the beets seem doubled. It is obvious because I can hear the double click of my valve. The first click is a bit more pronounced than the second, and the double beats are spaced out in a regular sinus. They last anywhere from 30 second to several minutes.

They are like this CLICK, click,,,,,,,,CLICK,click,,,,,,CLICK,click,,,,,,CLICK,click,,,,,,

The doc says he thinks it may be the Amiodarone and Beta Blockers slowing things down, but he didn't have an answer for the double beats. Am I missing something?

It's hard to determine what sort arrhythmia you have w/o a heart monitor. Many are simple PVCs, but there are a boatload of other ones, some benign and some not benign. You should run it by your cardiologist. I know you mention that you asked your doc, but did you ask the card.?

Did they do an EKG while you were experiencing the 'unusual' heartbeats?
If not, I would ask for an EKG to identify the nature of that irregular rhythm.

I'm guessing that it sounds like PAC's or PVC's.

I have had PACs and PVCs, and it does feel like that, but they are one after another for a sustained period. When I said Doc, I was talking about my electrophysiologist.

I have been monitored and holtered so I would have to think it has been seen. I wonder if they pay close atention to those test.

Yeah, the Back to Back irregularities trigger some concern in my mind.

Do you have a "Walk-In-Clinic" in your area where you could get it checked out by EKG?

(I KNOW what a pain it is to go to an ER, especially on a weekend...
BUT, if these irregularities are constant, I would want to know what is going on ASAP).

Do you have a Stethoscope? If not, I encourage you to obtain one.
An inexpensive model is 'good enough' to listen to your heartbeat.

For whatever reason this reduced in occurence to nothing. The only thing I have now is PVCs about every 10 or 15 minutes; in the evning after dinner more frequent.

At the time I posted this I was on amioderone for almost three weeks still having this slow afib. On my own initiative I started taking about 3 grams of fish oil per day. Within two weeks after that, the afib went away for good.

My afib recovery was one of three things, or all combined:
1)amioderone
2)fish oil
3)natural healing of the heart
4) prayer

I just got off the amioderone so I am hoping the recovery was due to numbers 2,3& 4

so far so good

I'm wondering if the PVCs will ever go away? It may not be as risky as a-fib but definetly annoying. I've always had them but since surgery 10,000s a day. I'm learning to ignore them.

This may be nothing, but when I increased my fish oil to 4 grams per day I noticed less PVC, and generaly felt better. Then again it could have just been healing.
