Okay, so it has been 5 1/2 months since the op. Went to GP again yesterday. Tick bite fever still not gone and headaches still very bad! Now I've noticed that my hands, legs, tummy, face, everything is swollen. Water retention??? I am not on any medication at this stage (just antibiotics) and can not understand why I am retaining fluids. A friend gave me 1x Diuretic yesterday and I have lost 2kg's in one day! All fluids! My face, legs, hands, everything seems thinner!

Is it normal to have water retention, all of a sudden? I had this pre-op but my Atrium was enlarged and Pulmonary hypertention, but why now?

Will that explain my shortness of breath, dizzyness and palpitations on exertion (just climbing steps) and chest pains that I've been having? My BP is on average 110/70 (no probs there).

Any advise will be appreciated.

You need to call your cardiologist and get in to see him/her. Don't take any more diuretics from friends. You have to have your doctor evaluate what is going on, and get on the right medications for it.

Ditto Nancy .... you need to call and see your cardio, soon ... the fluid could be the cause of some of your symptoms .... and don't take drugs from a friend, you trying to act like a Chimp or what:p ... all joking aside ... not a good practice.

Just echoing what's been said. Never take diuretics unless under the doctor's orders. Best to get checked out to evalutate the situation and determine the actions necessary. Best wishes and good luck.

Smiley, everyone that posted has said it (Check It Out)

A big thank you to all of my friends ;)

I went to my Doctor yesterday and he referred me to a new Cardiologist on Monday for tests. I thought that maybe the water retention is a common thing, but GP agrees that I need a sonar, ECG, xrays, etc.

Only down-side is: I have to go to Hospital for these tests. I joined a new Medical Aid on 1 Sept. and only have "in-hospital" benefits at the moment.

The Medical Aid that I was on for the past 2 years was decleared INSOLVENT last month and they are now under Liquidation! I think I helped a bit  so, now I am responsible for all the outstanding bills from my op! Hospital: R99 000, Surgeon R10 000, Aneathetists: R6 000, xrays, physio, Doctors, Cardiologist.... oh goody.

oh well, I am not to stressed about that. God has always looked after me and blessed me with so many things, I am in good Hands.

I felt better, even 2weeks after the op than I have felt the past 3 months! At some stage I thought it is just depression from being at home, losing my job and that I am just feeling sorry for myself... but for the past month I have been very happy in my new job and loving life... just not feeling well.

So, I'll go to Hospital on Monday, see the Cardiologist with a list of my Medical history, meds that I've been using and notes of symptoms.

Will keep you guys/girls posted :) Thank you for being here!:D
