I want to start by thanking everyone for all the replies I recieved the last time I posted a message.

Well I have an AVR no rplacement (yet?) I am 22 years old and am having a weird feeling in my chest.

I know this is wrong but I haven't seen a cardiologist in 3 years, because I moved and there is few doctors around this small town.
It all started about 6 months ago. I went to the clinic, because the town where I live is very small and no available family doctor. It feels a if my heart were popping out of my chest and beating extremly slow and it makes me feel breathless like someone knocked the wind out of me, for it only lasts for about 6-10 seconds and then after I feel fine, and am normal again. It is a little scary when it happens because it is so short and no warning its comming.
The doctor told me that I was only 22yrs old and I wouldn't have anything wrong with my heart, so he just brushed me off by telling me it was heart burn!!!!!?????!!(for 6 sec.?) Anyways . .

In the mean time the feeling in my chest has changed (i'm not sure if its better or worse) and it is occuring more frequently.

I'm not sure what to do, has anyone ever heard of anything like this? What does it sound like?
I also go on other sites to try to find info on my heart condition but I don't understand what all the terms mean,, and when I used to go to the doctor, they just told me, your heart hasn't changed so come back in a years time. Which doesn't tell me anything.

Anyone with ANY info please let me in on your knowledge!
Thank you

If you are feeling breathless and lightheaded....you should get to the hospital.

There are many types of heart arrythmia's that can cause very odd feelings and can cause hospitalization or worse.

I am not trying to scare you...but go to the hospital.

Keep us posted,

Ben

Any Doctor that brushes off the possibility of heart problems based solely on age, I would run from as fast as I could and find another Doctor. There are far too many young people that have heart problems. With that being said, you need to get your tail into a Cardiologist and get evaluated now. You need to see where things stand and if your feeling changes, then by golly, something is changing.

Any reports of tests taken, get copies of them and keep them. I don't know where to start with whats wrong with you without knowing what they've found thus far.

At the very least you should probably be put on a Holter monitor to find out what's going on. Get to the hospital. They can't ignore you there.

And you need to find a cardiologist.

Keep in touch - hope you feel better.

Listen Rizzie-

This is from "grandma"---Find a cardiologist and get an evaluation, no more lame excuses!!! It sounds as if you had a cardiologist in the past, 3 years ago, so there must have been something to look at with your heart.

If it's nothing then good, but if it is something and you did nothing about it, you may regret it for the rest of your life.

Age has nothing to do with heart problems. There are babies with heart problems.

There is no one here that can diagnose you on the Internet, a doctor/cardiologist is where you need to be. Call today.

And if you are having any heart feelings that you are uncomfortable with, go to the urgent care facility and have them look at it.

Don't let anyone ever "blow you off" like that.

You are the ONLY person who can get help for yourself, no one is going to come knocking on your door to see if you are OK.

So get going and let us know what happens.

Rizzie - if you went to a cardio 3 yrs ago, there must have been a reason. What did he/she say? This one who told you that it's heartburn - what sort of dr is he/she? If not a cardio, then you need to go see one even if it's in another town. Mine is in another town, too - 1 1/2 hrs away. When my local dr found a possible heart problem, he didn't try to dx it - he sent me on to the cardiologist who would pick up from there and figure it out. You need to do that, too. You aren't too young. Our little Brad was way younger than you are when he had his valve replaced. We also had a high schooler in here, too. Youth seems to be the choice of a messy valve - not always, but judging by the ages of most of the vr family, youth is a common thread. Go.

Hey Rizzie,
I am a little older than you but I think I know what you are feeling. But let me give you a little background. I was told many years ago that I had a heart murmur. I was told not to worry bout it, it was no big deal and lots of people have them. Fortunately I have been pretty healthy and have not seen a lot of doctors in my lifetime. But I had some kidney stones 2 years ago and went to see a doctor. I told him of this feeling I get in my chest that felt like my heart "turning over" or "flopping" . I could feel a big thump and Felt like I had to cough but did not, and felt a little dizzy but only for 2 or 3 seconds. This doctor said it is probably associated with your heartburn, (which I have had forever). That was 2 years ago.
Now within the last few weeks I find out that a "heart murmur" is something to worry about. In my case I was born with a defect in the Aortic valve. It is very common that this situation does not present any symptons for a long time, but very often as time goes by the situation deteriorates and medical intervention needs to take place. You would think that a doctor who listened to my heart 2 years ago and who said at the time "wow, that is a loud murmur" might not have dismmissed my "thumping heart, and associated momentary shortness of breath" as probably heart burn. BUT THAT IS WHAT HE SAID! So until a couple weeks ago I did not no I had a bad valve and an anyuerism. So the moral of the story and my long ramblings are this. You know it is not right so go Somewhere (hospital sounds like a good place) and make someone understand that you need to be checked out.
It may be nothing, it may be something but just "writing it off to heartburn" is Not the answer you need to hear.

I met 2 people in the hospital, both under 30, one who'd had a heart attack, and the other for some similar heart malady (can't remember exactly). New doctor time, I think, and PRONTO.
