Does it seem reasonable that my heart may have had some damage with a mitral valve leaking for 49 years? We are trying to figure out why my ejection fraction is now at a 45 after my valve was repaired in 2009. My cardiologist doesn't seem too concerned with a 45 and says that number goes up and down but I guess I'm just looking for some answers and can't get it off my mind. I get a repeat echo in 3 months to see if the Coreg and Lisinopril is helping. Thoughts? :confused2:

That is not an extremely low EF and many people live very full, long lives with a lot lower.

My PCP actually told me in some patients, a surprisingly low EF produces few if any symptoms or problems.
The number is not exact. There is some variation with ECHO tech etc and it isn't spot on exact.
Listen to your doctors and don't get concerned if they are not. IMO

Thanks for that. I need to hear more of that. I'm pretty sure half my problem is me worrying about it. I never had a symptom of anything until I heard my EF was a 45. The mind is a very powerful thing...

Mine's at 40-45. I still manage to do everything except jog. Don't worry about it. The Coreg may help, though
