Won't lie about it -- nearly forgot about posting today. Can't take Staying the Course for granted, though. It's just that this time of the year, there is a lot of course to stay! (Like Santa, with Rudolph leading the way, you know.)

Guess I just won't think about weight until after the start of the New Year -- will have pounds to shed, I'm sure.

Still on a roller-coaster with weather -- it was close to 80 yesterday, today a cold rain, in the 40s.

Still hanging in there walking my part-Chesapeake Bay Retriever (which my great vet helped me figure out my rescue "retriever mix" to be).

Look forward to hearing how all are doing.

Cheers,

Superbob

Oh Superbob I wouldn't have held you to it! Does get a bit crazy with the holidays and don't blame you for starting after the 1st.

We have warmed to 30 degrees and that is above zero so we are loving it! A friend of mine from AZ said that on the morning show they were showing the locals there all bundled up in heavy jackets, gloves and scarves while the snowbirds were in shorts! ha ha

I am staying my course. Just about got my INR theraputic and hoping today is the day. Seated exercises and standing leg ones still in place while I wait for word next week. Visiting cardio (he comes once a month to local clinic and did the window part of my pleural effusion surgery) on Monday and on to Billings Tuesday for a lot of tests and see the cardio surgeon there. Hope they make my Christmas and let me go to AZ for couple months and cardiac rehab :)

Take good care and Merry Christmas!

I'm Baaaaack!

We were away for the weekend - up to cold, snowy Madison, WI. Temps hit about 12-14 below 0F, but with little wind, it only felt cold, not COLD. They had 7 to 8 inches of snow on Friday night through Saturday afternoon, and they had to call a snow emergency in the city of Madison! It seems that all the tree huggers in the county there pushed through a resolution not to use salt on the roads because they were afraid too much salt was finding its way into the lake and their water supply. So, they just did nothing until the snow stopped, then they eventually plowed the streets. We spent the whole weekend driving through the snow, watching them pull cars out of ditches and clearing accident sites. What lunacy! We had a nice time, though. We got to do some shopping (for ourselves, not for gifts), got to some fun restaurants, and even saw a movie. We're from Chicago - that little bit of snow isn't going to ruin our holiday!

Now it is back to the routine, but at least this week and next are short weeks at my office. We have long weekends for both the Christmas holiday and for New Year's as well.

Hope everyone is staying warm and safe as we start to feel like winter is coming.

Doing great in H Town with cold weather back (though it's predicted Christmas Day will be 75F). Doing good on avoiding sugar but no weight loss yet. Had a conversation with a long-distance friend last night and she's lost 21 lbs. since July doing Atkins. I've known her for nearly 40 years and weight loss has always been a struggle for her no matter how much she dieted or exercised. I'm so happy for her success and she's given me some inspiration to stick to my efforts.

Here's some Christmas recipes which are "Banting", which is probably the original Atkins, from Real Meal Revolution website: http://realmealrevolution.com/recipes#cat_60,p1 I've done the 'sage and blue cheese roasted squash' recipe as a starter for when we had friends for dinner - they loved it. None of us needs to lose weight but the website is actually for those who need to. They are also suitable for diabetics (like me) since they are all extremely low carb - they're high fat, moderate protein, like Atkins. Happy Christmas !

PS - the cake recipe and the stuffing for the turkey recipe are all low carb too as they use nuts, not flour, and, in the cake xylitol, not sugar.

Wow, looks great! Thanks very much for this info, Paleowoman -- I will definitely explore it further. Need to put together good/ smart dietary game plan (in the parlance of football). When we go to an actual football bowl game next week, who knows what we will eat (though I understand there are some great places in Nashville. Will keep this in mind as we explore menus too)....thanks again!

Seasonal greetings, all!

Hi everyone,

''Tis a tough time of year to keep the weight off. Cookies, sugar canes, candy, breads and that is just breakfast!

I found the hardest part of working out is making the decision to go do it. It is remarkable how many excuses one can come up with: there is that email I have to reply to, it is too cold to drive to the fitness center, oh, the dishes need washed, and the cloths need folded, that computer that needs fixed, just after I finish this book, after I post this comment, I do the vacuuming for you ... and so on.

Since I swapped cardiac rehab for going to the fitness center, my wife is pleased about how much I help out around the house. :)

But, I am doing three days a week. I am up to 60 minutes on the treadmill - 3 miles, and 10 minutes on the elliptical. And I gained only three pounds!

Today is my 5 month anniversary of my new aortic valve and I feel great!

Now for dinner there is that cake, those sugar cookies, that chocolate candy the sales guy left for us, and that sweet ...
