Sorry, jwinter, that you got left as the last poster of last week's thread so long.... hectic days! Didn't get a chance to get back to it.

Hectic today as usual -- having our Mended Hearts Christmas Party this evening so got a bazillion things to do to get ready.

Afraid to step on scales -- can feel the weight gain. Just not eating intelligently -- too much junk.

Weather on a roller-coaster...cold one day, today warm, next few days another cold front....but we have no reason to complain -- this is South Carolina, not South Dakota. Saw a TV feature about Dakota ranchers feeding their livestock put in the heavy snow. Hardy folks -- rugged!

More later. Best to all on you respective courses being stayed.

Cheers,

Superbob

Superbob, No problem replying to my responses as they are not usually that important, lol However this area of the forum is important to me as I go forward with my healing and recovery. Oh, and "tis the season" for our scales to be collecting dust.
Doc appointment today with pcp and hope to get off a couple meds. The one for afib tears my stomach up and the other is a narcotic I think I can do without. Increased my exercise reps a couple days ago (again) but may be too many so backing up a bit.
Merry Christmas and take time to enjoy!

Writing this while pumping away on my exercise bike.

I hear you about the weather shifts SB. Same in the Houston area. I loved the dip into the 30s this past weekend.

Staying the course!!

HB - Here in the Chicago area, when the temp hits the 30's in December, we open the pools! We're supposed to be below zero soon (like - this weekend). 7 degrees (F) this morning, so one must dress for it.

I'm going to have to dial back my exercise intensity for a few weeks, it seems. I have added a new med - temporarily (probably for another month or so). This one is an alpha-blocker, for a non-heart-related condition. Twice in the past two weeks, while exercising, I saw my heart rate go from around 140 down to 90-100 BPM. I spoke with my pacemaker consultant this morning, and as she put it, "Your device is reacting normally to an abnormal situation." Basically, if my heart rate goes over 160 BPM, even for just a few beats, the device cannot keep up (or is set not to keep up), and it drops to half of the requested heart rate. If I stop or slow my pace, the situation resolves. If I try to "power" through it, it just stays at half-rate and I become SOB rather quickly. It seems that this temp medication has the side effect, although rare, of causing elevated heart rate under exercise conditions. At least it makes sense, nothing is wrong with my heart or my device, and the medication is only temporary. Whew! This one sort of disturbed my sleep last night, but I'm really lucky I have such an approachable consultant. She is the Device Clinic Coordinator for a major Center of Excellence facility, and she really knows her stuff. Life goes on. . .

pellicle - Well this morning it was 2F on the way to work. I did wear gloves and an extra layer of clothing under my coat, but I haven't pulled out the "severe weather" gear yet.

Back when I was a runner, I used to run outdoors (at 4:30 AM, no less) as long as the temp was above 10F. Heck, if it was above 50F, I never wore a shirt!

I'm guessing that if you jogged to work in that you didn't get too sweaty ;-) (or were you in the car?)

I've skiied across a lake back to our hut in 14F pretty much took my shirt off and just had a "long johns" shirt on and micro-fiber gloves and a beanie / touque ... it was about 20K and I got a mild dose of hypothermia for my trouble.

Wind makes a big difference

:)

Anyway, Hyvaa Joulua kaveri

mysterious

may as well use this to post my Finnish Christmas Story ;-)

I'm with Pellicle normally, as are most Minnesotans, 10 degrees F is a nice day in winter.

Unfortunately today is not so nice, -25F windchill now and expected to drop to -45F later today.

Getting geared up to go shovel the driveway.

By the way at -40 degrees we are all the same, Celsius and Farenheit. I'll think of my overseas friends here as we drop past that mark.

Send warm thoughts Superbob!

-24 on the thermometer in Montana this morning. Real feel of -32 this early morning. Guess I will stay this course with another cup of coffee and wait for daybreak. My friends in AZ are headed for 60 today.
Hope to catch a flight down there in February......

It's 8 C here this morning in London, UK, that's 46 F. Bit misty/foggy with no wind, but rather damp. We all complain about the damp cold but at least it's not as cold as Montana or Finland !
