Whew -- just another manic Monday! Sorry to be tardy in starting Staying the Course week. Hope all are well. Really liked last week's input from you folks on fitness, walking, running et al. As for me, I've been on a three-day birthday-celebrating binge -- cake, ice cream, honey-roasted peanuts, potato chips, BBQ -- imagine anything not really healthy and I've probably eaten it. Got to get back on the course, pronto, before it all spins out of control.

Will post more later. Keeping up with walking. One thing haven't seen: the Supermoon!!! Suddenly socked-in here -- solid clouds, not even a peek of the big red moon yet -- was hoping to get a glimpse tonight. Hoping you can see it where y'all are.

More later....

Cheers,

Superbob

Me too, Bob. That is I've eaten way too much junk the past few days. We've been celebrating my husband''s birthday for about 4 days now with chips and queso, burritos, fried chicken, German chocolate cake, and who knows what else. That cake is so good, even if I say so myself. I only make it once a year for his birthday because it is soooo fattening. I use almost a 1lb of butter between the cake and the icing and 8 egg yolks. But you have to live a little 😀

Haven't seen the super moon either....

Superbob, I think that facing it head on and admitting it helps get back on course. I have given myself some leeway as some kind of gift for being a good patient the last weeks(how silly is that?) I have rounded a couple corners the last few days and seems like strength is slowly coming back. I am lined out for rehab but surgeon said they will decide when to start. I am hoping for some inspiration to get me going. We need to figure how to award ourselves with something other than food. Pass the cake over here Lisa2, please.
Oh and another little challenge for me is to concentrate on whole foods. I know............we all love them.

Dropping in to say hello. All is well with me 21 months after OHS. Gearing up for thanksgiving and the holidays, always a busy time of the year. We did a lot of travelling in recent months including a Danube cruise in August and two weeks in India in October...whew! Catching up for the lost year during recovery.

Best wishes to all,

Jim

Hi, Jim! Nice to see you back. You'll have to tell us about your travels, too. We did a whirlwind tour of Great Britain and the UK in May, and I'm still tired. . .

I'm still around. No issues right now in weight control. I've started some treatment for another medical condition (not heart-related) and the diet necessitated by that one is "helping" me to drop a couple of pounds. That won't be all bad, as we will have a house full of out-of-towners for Thanksgiving, with all the food and parties that will bring. Our daughter, son-in-law and their 17-month-old son are coming to visit. I guess we better put away the crystal!

Glad everyone is managing well. I've only missed a day or so at the gym, but once the family arrives, I'll probably miss an entire week. Life comes first! I'll get back to it before the next holidays come around to disrupt schedules again.

Jim -- great to see you back! As Steve mentioned, we would love to hear more about your travels (pix, too, if you'd like to share them).

Good to hear reports of getting back on course. I've been a lot more careful about eating this week. Got to make a game plan for the holidays -- a lot of the festive feast is nutritious -- good protein in turkey, for example. Just got to exercise moderation on the rich stuff. Dressing (whether cornbread, oyster, or whatever) often is my downfall. Got to avoid the seconds and thirds and fourths. Same with pie.

On Monday I have an appointment with cardiologist to go over my CT-Scan results. I got a copy from the tech people, and it looks like I might have the beginning of an aneurysm in my descending aorta (as opposed to ascending, where aneurysm was taken care of with a dacron thingie almost 12 years ago)... Could be something to watch, or could be nothing. Just thought I would mention. Aren't we always waiting for one medical result or conclusion or another? Of course, we are blessed to have the best of medical science in our corners, helping us stay our respective courses.

Cheers all....

Oh and we did see what I guess if called the "waning Supermoon" last night. Still pretty spectacular. We're having some air quality issues though from smoke blowing this way from NC and GA wildfires.

I am staying the course in Houston. Tomorrow I go for another follow up for the study in which my valve is enrolled. A very extensive echo, blood draws, and X-rays. Fun day at the Medical Center!

Really enjoying my little recumbant bike. Far better than the treadmill.

Well, it seems that many of us are back on track. SB - it is not fun to hear of a potential aneurysm, but better to know and watch than to be surprised.

HB - I'm glad you like the recumbent. An older friend of mine (I think he's about 75 now) rides a recumbent 2-wheeler on road trips with a group of cycle buddies. They often do over 100 miles on a weekend, and he says he loves it. I may have to look into that, but I wouldn't know where to store one. Our garage is an old 2-car garage that just barely fits the cars. I have to tack old carpet remnants on the walls to keep the car doors from getting chipped when they hit.

Oh, BTW SB, it is OK to take seconds on the protein. Just not the desserts and dressings. I guess I'm lucky - I grew up eating that way. As a younger man, I generally took seconds only on protein or certain vegetables. I was not big on carbs and sauces. That alone has helped to keep me at a healthy weight for many years.

Just thought I would share this with my OHS friends: Got on the scale the other day. Didn't like what I saw so I had a banana for breakfast, traded cardiac rehab for a membership in a more local fitness center, and increased my workout time.

That was the good part.

Bad news is I spent more time sitting in a desk chair doing IT work and I ate ice cream. :(
