Ok guys, I'm going to do this coumadin thing for a very short time, 30 days worth. He started me on 5 mg. a day. Does this sound right or is it going to send me sky high? Also, I'm not sure how I'm going to do this exactly. I'm home for about 10 days and then we leave for the beach so I don't know how to find a way to get my INR checked. Any suggestions?

I believe that 5 is the usual starting dose. They should be checking your INR often, at least every 3 days, to see what the dose is doing. Hoping that you get in range quickly or you're going to have to find a place near the beach to go get it checked. Best wishes.

Kim, 5 mg sounds about right. I had to have it checked every couple of days my first couple weeks. Hope you find some where close to the beach and watch it with to much sun!!!

Everyone is different on this so it could be off either way,but it is an average
dose. You should be within range within 10 days, but how long are you going to be away at the beach? I thought they were going to give you the Lovenox for this month? I guess if you have problems getting you INR within range, maybe they will allow you to use the Lovenox still-esp if you will be in a place for an extended time where you cannot check your numbers.

My INR was checked twice a week for several weeks after I left the hospital. You may want to get a prescription from your doctor and find a lab near the beach you shall be going to. Good luck.
